TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! OVERWHELMINGLY SKEPTICAL KANSAS CITY REACTION CONFRONTS CITIZEN'S TASK FORCE ON VIOLENCE RECOMMENDATIONS!!!

More than a year of work and public meetings might have been wasted given the lackluster response to recommendations from Kansas City Citizens Task Force on violence.

A few highlights . . .

- Combined television broadcast news coverage on the day of the press statement totaled less than 4 minutes from all major local news outlets.

- Nearly 1/3rd of the members of the task force members completely dropped out of the meetings at the halfway point.

- Only a handful of members from the task force bothered to attend the final recommendation press conference.

Again, here's a look at the final document that took more than a year to produce . . .

Citizens Task Force on Violence final recommendations to the Mayor

Over that time Kansas City endured a homicide increase of nearly 30%.

Now, take a look at the presser according to City Hall . . .

What our blog community has noted in a search of social media reactions, news leader coverage and a few private statements from neighborhood leaders is that this plan has been largely dismissed by the public.

The question . . .

Will these plans work despite the fact that this process didn't inspire much follow-through or commitment from participants of the task force???

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. You say you try to give credit where it use due but this plan deserves more consideration.

While the members might not have been enthusiastic, there are a lot of people who dedicated their time and work to this project. They deserve respect. The public always has trouble following up on anti crime efforts but the work to encourage further study and hire more people to prevent crime deserves respect. Those are solid steps that are solutions. Better than what we had before this .

  4. Here's something ironic. The combined TV news coverage of actual crimes had more news hole coverage than the proposed solutions.

The fact is, the lurid public watches the news to observe coverage of crimes against others. We are living Minority Report. Go watch it again.

I'm halfway surprised the Commission didn't go so far as to demand local TV stations limit their reporting of crime to less than 4 minutes per day!!! And just run wall to wall coverage of happy talk and weather. That's what Bernie Sanders would do. Socialize the solution.

It just frees him up to give away more monstrous tax giveaways to developers taxpayers will be ultimately holding the bag for.

  11. Better have a task force verify the first task forces findings and meanwhile the carnage will continue. Put all cops on a standing order to shoot all gangs on a shoot first ask questions later basis.

  12. While this committee did its "work" Kansas City moved past Oakland in homicides. I am glad they are trying, but this was a legeandary whiff. Incredibly, the committee didn't address how to address safety of the rest of the city. While Rome burnt Nero fiddled, and in this case Nero is the mayor. At some time someone is going to have to address the number of police officers in our neighborhoods. It's sad that not a single action point addressed crime. How can a potential mayoral candidate put her name on this pathetic attempt at addressing the outnof control crime problem in this city. Jolie left the door wide open for a much better candidate to step up.

  15. AND HEY,to all you doubting Thomase's out there, check it-

Drunk driving, tobacco use and texting while driving, have decreased when accompanied by an agressive marketing effort...you know what that means...

If we can decrease those three problems, then surely we-if we accompany the same marketing effort- can undoubtedly stop a lot of the violence!

Again,I'm thinking, after school specials for the gang bangers.lots of public service messages to the black-hearted,drug-addicted, vicious ,souless kc and metro denizens, who would then ,more than likely, think twice before shooting the fuck outta people who have dissed them,in a variety of ways, and maybe not rob that store and shoot the clerk, for kicks..

I think this simple part of the plan would give the crack dealers coping skills, which would go a long way in reducing killings and wing-shots,when other dope slingers, gang bangers and stick up boys try to rob them or step on their turf.naturally we would see a drop in young maniacs spraying rounds out the car at an intended scumbag, and while doing so taking out little kids, by the bunches, or whoever is unlucky enough to be walking by.

More brick n morter safe spots and snitch-centers will be utilized greatly. As the neighborhood folks sit and sip coffee, black folks will pour in ,by the bushel to talk and tell on there brothers.

Sly, I hope you're listening to thsee reccomedations. It sure sounds like fresh, well thought out new ideas,by people who are really vested in reducing crime !!!

  17. If vigils, task forces, meetings, protests, marches, town hall meetings, facilitating, dialoguing, identifying stakeholders, nonprofits, fake nonprofits, academic studies, and all the rest, AND hundreds of millions of dollars actually even addressed, much less seriously and effectively curtailed crime, violence, and homicides, KCMO would be nirvana.
This has been a very sad joke from the beginning with an equally sad and completely and easily predictable outcome.
    Shameful.

  18. I wonder if HCA has citizen laymen on their hospital planning board or if they get professionals to make recommendations. I wonder if NASA sits a bunch of local folk on a committee when they want to go to mars? It seems pretty clear the city never wanted folks who actually knew anything about crime reducing strategies or methodologies, but rather preferred a dog and pony show so they can later say they have tried everything to reduce crime. They have really done little to nothing. Now we can all get back to the real priorities of building hotels, granting tax abatements and slapping a new pile of bricks on 18th and Vine. The boos hog politicians scored again.

  19. As they were standing there, getting ready to spin their B.S., I couldn't help but notice that Mayor James, Alissia Canady, and Jolie Justus share a common trait....they are narcissistic fat dumbfucks.

Here's the boilerplate message from Justus that she no doubt plagiarized from one of the Liberal Lesbians For Hillary rallies which she attended last year:

    Community-based conversations
    Short-term and long-term strategies
    Policy-based solutions
    Comprehensive Youth Master Plan
    Pursue a federal study
    Inter-agency domestic violence fatality review
    Community-based solutions
    Create a staff position
    Storefront Community Resource Center
Establish electronic database for community resources
    Public engagement and education
    Create a public-service campaign
    Establish Mentoring Program

TOTAL BULLSHIT! She's advocating nothing more than growing the government bureaucracy.

You want to quickly solve the homicide/violence problem in KCMO? In one year the problem could be dramatically reduced and virtually eliminated thereafter by following these steps:

Those apprehended for violent crime acts are held without bond, quickly processed through an accelerated Violent Crime Court, those found guilty are given maximum sentences without parole and their names are publicized to ostracize family/friends. Convicted murderers are quickly executed.

When it comes to silly things like the minimum wage, James and Council are quick to defy Missouri state law, but on important things like violent crime reduction they continually shoot blanks.

  24. We are all disappointed to see Chief Forte decide to retire. We thank him for his service and dedication and wish him all the best. As with most situations like this, it opens up opportunities. The Kansas City Police Department has struggled with dwindling budgets, fewer officers, high crime numbers, lack of local control and other political issues. On Sunday April 2nd, the KC Star suggested we need to hire an outside agency to help find a new Chief. This is premature, in our opinion. We suggest we need to do is use this opportunity to analyze the Police Department from top to bottom before we hire a new Chief. City Hall has spent over $12 Million dollars on airport consultants to tell them what they wanted to hear. Why not spend a little money and get some professional, outside experts in town to look at our police department?

Perhaps there is a local police officer capable of taking over the department but that might get us more of the same high crime problems? Why not get some fresh eyes on the situation and a different perspective? Two names come to mind, Ray Kelly and Bill Bratton both from New York. These guys were responsible for bringing the New York Police Department into the modern era. They supervised over 25,000 officers (Kansas City has less than 1,000) in one of the toughest cities in the country and were able to bring crime under control and keep it there. They have a world of knowledge and experience we just might be able to learn from. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to get a different perspective on our situation. Let’s use this opportunity to GET IT RIGHT!

Call and Email your Council Person, the Mayor and the City Manager (Listing below). Hiring an agency to look for a new Chief is just putting a band aid on a serious wound. With that approach, we’ll get a talking head with a brilliant resume and end up with the same structure and problems. Let’s take this opportunity to get a real handle on how the department is staffed and structured plus what changes might be made to improve things. If asked perhaps one or both Kelly and Bratton would help with the recruitment process. Fresh eyes f4rom the outside are never a bad thing. We don’t have anything to lose and possibly a lot to gain!.

If we are able to get a new plan for our Police Department, it might go a long way toward getting local control.

  25. Here are a couple recommendations that did not make the final cut:

Counsel, cajole, persuade, demand (whatever it takes) girls and young women to not have children with men who are not committed to being a permanent part of the child's life; will serve the child as a mentor and example of socially responsible behavior; and expects to contribute financially to the well being of the child at least until adulthood.

Assign to each gang banger a pie in the sky do-gooder liberal who will follow the gang banger wherever he goes and will dissuade the gang banger at all times from smoking dope, drinking Colt 45, robbing, mugging, shooting, car jacking, etc. and explain how such activities, while perfectly understandable in view of this country's history of racism and economic oppression, merely perpetuate an unfairly negative view of minority and disadvantaged communities, which makes it much harder for progressives to win elections.

It would be worth it.the ones that wanna work, hey there'd be a shit load of jobs, because most wouldn't. Those can live off the government, as long as THEY NEVER OR THEIR CHILDREN, STEP A FOOT OUT OF THAT STATE.

Somebody else figure out the small shit...I got beer to drink.
