Unfunded mandates are regulations or requirements set by the federal government without any funding and limited to no enforcement. Reed says the mandates often take money away from locally passed programs and initiatives.

A Kansas City police officer interrupted a robbery early Tuesday at a gas station. Police said the officer walked in on the holdup at the Shell gas station at Truman Road and Brooklyn Avenue. The man took off and jumped into a waiting car, but fell out when the vehicle sped off, authorities said.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man is in custody after a police chase in Kansas City, Missouri. Officers said a man stole a black F-250 near 31st Street and Brooklyn in east KC. Police said the man got onto 71 Highway and sped off. Police pursued and the suspect was arrested near 59th and Olive.
