    1. Apparently your ignorance is your biggest strength and you are unfamiliar with a lot of her work. She is hugely responsible for something being done to the deserted area that was once known as Bannister Mall. The new Cerner project? Yep that's her work even though others will try to take credit for it now that she is no longer State Rep and the Cerner project is almost done.
Myself being a mother of special needs children I am very grateful for her work on bringing money back to programs for special needs children and mental health in KC. She is also behind bringing the Rediscover project on 87th and Blue Ridge as well as the Swope Health clinic into the SKC area. I am thankful for things like this just like others that I know are thankful for things like this being done in an area where we needed it more than others and my children now have outside assistance closer to home. It is good to know there are still people like Mims out there representing us well, fighting for us and doing us proud.

    2. @8:56/11:54AM You must be Randy Battagler, owner/publisher of the Raytown Times. Your dirty little tricks are part of the problem with Raytown. You tried to bury Jason Greene already who is one of our seated Alderman leaders pushing good things for us. Violence is a problem everywhere. We cannot expect politicians to do it alone, even if we vote for them. Raytown will finally be bringing trash pickup to neighborhoods this summer too. It might not seem like much to some, but it is an example of how we have to fight for even the smallest things that bigger areas are just awarded and take advantage of. Better policing will be another big step.

As a lifelong resident of Raytown I'm glad someone like Bonnaye Mims is gonna be a part of helping shape up Raytown. I am familiar with some of her work in South KCMO, since my wife and stepchildren spent half of their lives in that area. She ran a good, clean, old school campaign and won fair and square. Who is petty enough to care how many votes she won by? Oh, you are @11:54, of course. Ha!

Heck, I voted for Greg Walters too. I liked the guy and think he would have made a great addition to the group we need representing us heading into the future. He didn't lose by many votes, and you don't see me complaining. Give Mims a chance to do what she can. She has an accomplished track record showing she is one of the rare ones these days that can work both sides of the isle, with Democrats and Republicans. From what I have seen, she is well connected in our State Capitol, and locally she has gotten good things done. In Raytown, we need more people that can get things done, regardless of color or party.

Hard work pays off and it deserves congrats. Some of us Raytown constituents actually care about and want change. If Mims can bring that then I'm on board, and I will be doing my part to better my community too. Good luck to her.

  5. She won by like FIVE VOTES. All the the best and good luck to her, but we suggest that her primary focus should be taming and more optimally REMOVING the throngs of CRIMINALS that either pass through or permanently moved from west KC or south KC into Raytown in the last 20 years. A murder what? Just a couple days ago? Get the bad actors, the animals -out-. Otherwise, diversity is welcome, and has already vastly improved the area. Some progress is finally being made in Raytown with new construction/improvements on the 350 Hwy corridor. (Credit due almost entirely to corporate decisions <-> traffic counts.) Any progress will decompose quickly if the deviant interlopers continue to run wild.

More POLICE, more ENFORCEMENT, more CONSCIOUSNESS in Raytown, people.

  6. Lived there for 17 years.agree^^^ with basically all you said, except one- you have no police force.they are a joke, always have beenrubes & boobs..they are directly responsible for letting a lunatic kill my neighbor back in 94..completely incompetent fucking joke ,Raytown pd

  7. Great for Mims. She has done very well serving the people of Missouri. A lot of people thought they had broken her after the last battle versus John Sharp and Freedom Inc. I saw some of them up to the same of dirty tactics stealing her signs a couple weeks ago. My 73 yr old neighbor was not too pleased seeing them sneaking across her lawn to pull up a Mims sign. They are on security camera doing this. It doesn't matter how many votes you win by if you win a clean grassroots campaign. She never seems to stop fighting the good fight. I remember seeing her on the school board battling against the urban core trying to muscle their way into the Hickman Mills school district when others were afraid and intimidated by them. I wish her the best of luck on her new path in Raytown. We have a lot to be done over here.

  8. Agree with 9:46. Given Raytown's transition in the last 20 years, in our opinion an elected chief of police is unquestionably outmoded and a somewhat irresponsible selection method. This chief ran pretty much unopposed and just scored another term in office. Great for Mayberry perhaps, but not for an almost entirely landlocked small sq mile town with what we feel is riddled with property crime and some violent crime. It's apathy and lack of involvement (and we're absolutely guilty of this) that assures that this manner of selection will continue. Not that this Chief is incompetent at all, but perhaps a examine the possibility of a referendum, with future selection and qualification criteria. Not buying the "it happens everywhere" (crime) sentiment, either. Room to improve here. There might be a really great candidate out there that is being overlooked that might have new ideas and initiatives.

And 11:21? (Ms. Mims?) No one is displaying any "ignorance". Name calling. Unacceptable. Mims won by FIVE votes. Fact. And as our newly-elected paid employee, it was requested that she make a difference. Raytown has serious issues with crime. If she's as effective as you allege, this should be a worthwhile and effective calling for her. Failing that, she should accomplish as much as she is capable of in her one term as an alderman in Raytown.

  9. ^^u tell'em (Councilman Sharp?) even tho u don't even live in raytown. Cool story bro

  10. The Codes enforcement is abysmal. Absentee landlords are maintaining nuisance properties that attract undesireables. There is at least one apartment complex that's at least partially condemnable. There's no doubt that the alderman in that ward has not walked that property or even driven around and really taken a look at the existing property conditions. Oh and 11:54, "some violent crime". Where the hell have you been lately? Also, having an elected Chief is a good thing for Raytown. I can't imagine how bad it would be for a seated Chief to dance to the tune played by the city council there. It would be a damn disaster.

  11. Raytown has changed. There was a murder on Monday and an armed carjacking on Tuesday. There was a gunfight in Gregory Heights a few weeks ago.

  12. Regarding Raytown codes enforcement. Several years back they did have one guy that kind of went nuts. He worked in city codes enforcement for years. He went after the son of the legal property owners. He eventually ended up being told to leave or he would be terminated. He left. Since then, they've been more sensible. We haven't had any issues with them not being responsive. Just gotta keep turning these landlords and properties in and making sure that codes follows through. And if not, call the mayor. This mayor seems to really care. Raytown needs to be overhauled. Strong city manager put in place. And violent crime? Let's see. A murder and a carjacking in the last several days. Hmm.

  13. Hard work deserves congratulations. Raytown politics is tough & no-holds-barred.

Boy, has Raytown come a long way from the original "Driving While Black" 'Burb of the 1970's!

  14. Hi Phil! Raytown can only aspire to to be as tough as Independence politics! Ha! Bonnaye is going to be great.

  16. Bob- If you're a "lifelong resident" of Raytown and "care about and want change.", you should understand full well why fresh faces are a dire necessity in that city hall. Too much stagnant lip flapping in years past by the same people. Year after agonizing year with little to no progress. They've had their chance. Thankfully, other voters have felt the same way. We're elated with the results of this election. An awesome group is evolving here. We're really impressed with that mayor, and hope he likes the job enough to stay around for many years to come.

    With one exception.

Your statement "Violence is a problem everywhere." Seriously, Bob? Have you ever been burglarized in Raytown? Have you ever been the victim of violent crime in Raytown? We have. Of both. Recently. No one is asking any single alderman to take on the role of sole crime fighter in Raytown. At election time however, these issues need to be be brought up by assembly, as they are escalating in our fair city. It needs to be more aggressively examined.

Newspapers are a relic of the past anyway, and hopefully that tiny Raytown paper will succumb if there are indeed any improprieties. Newsprint stinks and sullies the fingers anyway. IMHO just no point to them anymore, especially with all the Raytown Facebook pages. There are thousands of good-hearted community oriented people in those groups contributing in real time.

We're more encouraged about Raytown than we have been in probably 4 plus decades. Things are looking way up.

There is no "If" regarding my Raytown residency. It has been better and it has been worse on different levels. I do "care about and want change", and I do understand why some would want "fresh faces". I disagree about them being "a dire necessity". In my opinion, a good blend of fresh faces with new perspectives along with Raytown residents of old would make better progress than an all new club of "fresh faces." You speak of "Too much stagnant lip flapping in years past by the same people". How old are you? Are you not aware that what you mentioned comes with politics? Sometimes the ones that strive for progress and change have to fight and sometimes the odds are against them. I would rather support people that I feel will fight, than support those that are going to be a part of the "stagnant lip flapping". Sometimes we really never know until those people are put to the test and we find out that the gamble was not worth it. We only know once giving them a chance because we are not the politicians, they are.
I agree with you about there being an awesome group evolving, and things are looking up. But you contradict yourself by saying that "no one is asking any single alderman to take on the role of sole crime fighter in Raytown". Based on your statements, you give the impression that you are seeking exactly that from "fresh faces" and the mayor.

As far as my statement of "Violence is a problem everywhere." Yes, Seriously! Are you living in a bubble? Have you never left Raytown? Do you not know that there is an entire world outside of Raytown and they have many of the same problems we do, if not more?  Please tell me that you are not that close minded and naive?! Yes, I have been burglarized in Raytown, and yes I have been a victim of violent crime in Raytown. You earn no brownie points by stating that you have also, it just means that we have that in common. Our home was burglarized around the Christmas holiday of 2016, and it was not the first time we have experienced crime in Raytown. I agree with you once more that these issues need to be brought up by assembly, they are escalating in our area, and there needs to be more aggressive means of dealing with them. Our view differs about newspapers compared to social media. IMHO, Facebook pages and Twitter will never compare to what Newpapers once were. In todays generation, it assists in breeding laziness when it comes to researching facts before posting on social media. Accountability has gone straight to Hell compared to the days of newspapers.

  18. I happy for Mims, she is a go getter. Im also very happy that Jason Greene won again. He is one that has worked hard and will be honest, no matter what administration is in there. Hell, thats why the paper hates him because he pushed our awful ex city administrator out. Kepp up the good fight gents, Raytown has some opportunities ahead.
