ARTIST JESSICA LOGSDON TROLLS THE KANSAS CITY ART SCENE!!!

Jessica Logsdon is prolific, provocative and one of the few artists in Kansas City whose work is politically charged.

In fact, Ms. Logsdon taken a turn toward the outright politically incorrect.

In the tradition of most groundbreaking artists, some of her latest images have been downright offensive and she recently suffered a setback in the eyes of her fans by tagging local African-American politicos with minstrel images in a display that was racially charged but didn't really resonate anything but hurt feelings in an effort to achieve an aim that the artist didn't care to clarify. . . Still, the episode was noteworthy if only because so many other local artists are trapped in their own heads and rarely acknowledge the world around them at all. Fact is, Ms. Logson has some real moments of brilliance in her work when her message is focused, simple and relentless.

Accordingly . . .

Jessica Logsdon: "Upcoming Art Show! - DRAIN THE SWAMP"

Ms. Logsdon has made a splash at a few local arts shows but has yet to find a real place among a crowd that overwhelmingly skews left . . . We offer just a peek at her work for the sake of fairness and to remind our blog community that Kansas City remains a diverse cultural oasis in the heart of flyover country.

  1. The opposite of Peregrine? Saw her stuff at a Crossroads show a couple of years ago. Not bad. A couple of laughs which as more than I could say for most of the self-indulgent crap down there..

  2. I'm sick and tired of these free thinking artists discriminating against us porn producers. We not only have the finest art in America, we also are more popular than Royals logo panties.

  5. There is no Kansas City Art Scene anymore, there is only Not For Profits that drove out all of the small galleries. The Crossroads Art District is now just over priced real estate where all of the lawyers live. Currently it is just called The Crossroads District, they got rid of the word Art all together. So if you feel like you can never really be a part of the "kansas city art scene," don't worry about it because the scene is mostly imaginary like an art degree from The Kansas City Art Institute.

  6. Art is dead in Kansas City. A huuuuuge thank you to all of the NGO's, The Kemper Museum of Modern Art and The Kauffman Performance Center for raping all of the local artist for the last two decades. The Nelson-Atkins Museum was built by a wealthy family during the great depression, nothing has changed. When is the last time Crosby Kemper supported local art that went beyond orange squiggles? The answer is never.

  7. Don't forget the charlotte street foundation which is great way to funnel tax free donations, making the founders rich while leaving all of the creative people poor. However, the money is not the worst part, the worst part is that there main agenda is to dumb down art, dumb down the public and humiliate anyone that calls themselves an artist.

  8. ^^^Ramble on moron. These are your opinions only, and they are mostly ignorant and worthless. You have zero idea about the art in this town. Thanks for playing though.

  9. I love how everyone acts like all of these Not For Profit art organizations are such a good thing too. Oh, wow look at us we are so sophisticated, like all of other big cities. As if the money really goes to support artists. It's so simple, but people act like it's really complicated so we have to have all these not-for-profits throw all of the art shows. It's as if a Not- For- Profit car mechanic shows up in a latino neighborhood and offers to fix everyone's cars for free. All of the other latino mechanic shops are like what the fuck we can't compete with that.

Not to mention how lame all of these art shows are when they are thrown by Not-For-Profit art organizations. The content is always so childish. It makes me feel embarrassed. But of course, they all have to be kid friendly, because kids might show up.

Every culture can only grow to be as sophisticated as their art. Kansas City has along ways to go. But the first step is to admit that the current path of the Not-For-Profit art organizations first and foremost hurts all of the local artists.

For those people that still don't understand what I am saying, let me clarify. All of the money given to Not -For-Profit Art Organizations goes to the employees of that organization, not artists. If the money at no point leads back to artists, or only a very small percentage of the money made goes back to artists, then how do these organizations benefit the arts.

    Wake up Kansas City!
