  1. Damn kc is just bad for your health. It would be interesting to see where our murder rate compares to other cities of comparable size
    Cleveland, Memphis etc.

Get on that pdq, tkc. Thanks

  2. For starters, KCMO regularly has fully one-third the number of murders as New York City, which has a population 17 times the size.
    2016 stats:
NYC 8.5 million population 335 homicides
    KCMO 472,000 population 127 homicides

Of course, that was before Jolie Justus' year-long task force.

Homicides in KCMO this year: 40 An average of 10 each month

Public safety is not a priority for city government in KCMO.

  3. You think it would be when almost 3/4 of 1.5 billion dollar budget goes to police and fire, Well, at least the fire dept. cares anyway. You'd think with all that money we give the police dept. that we'd at least have control of them instead of the State but then I remembered who's in charge.....

  4. Darryl Forte's Legacy. High murders, police officer shortage, and bilk the department for hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's what happens when you let the fox guard the chicken coop.

  5. At 3:48, please go back to your Kansas City School and ask for an apology. The police received 245 million, out of 1.5 billion. 1.5 billion divided by 245 million is about 16 percent. You must be the person in charge of counting the visitors for the Mayor.

    1. @5:03PM- 76% (3/4) of the City's GENERAL FUND goes to Public Safety. Maybe you need to learn how to read a budget. Here's a quote from the transmittal letter from the submitted budget at www.kcmo.gov: "Public Safety accounts for 76 percent of the General Fund operating budget, and 42 percent of the total Government Activities budget."
