TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY GO BOND OPPONENTS FEAR CORPORATE GREED!!!

There's a common theme of distrust and suspicion directed against local business leaders and elected officials among opposition to upcoming GO BONDS and the litany of tax increases on the upcoming ballot.

To wit . . .

OPPONENTS OF PROPOSED KANSAS CITY APRIL 4TH TAX INCREASE BALLOT QUESTIONS SHARE SKEPTICISM OF THE POLITICAL MOTIVES FOR SO MUCH CORPORATE CAMPAIGN FUNDING!!!

We've been struggling to keep up with so many e-mails and messages sent our way that oppose GO BONDS and other efforts. However, for tonight we wanted to pick out quotes that represent a common theme of distrust among local voters.

The reality is that even a cursory look the MO Ethics website will reveal a litany of law firms and corporations donating to support GO BONDS while the opposition is loosely organized and funded by small private donations that don't even equal 1/100th of the financing for property tax increase efforts.

Accordingly, here's the word . . .

Kansas City Political Money Fact Check

"At a time when KCMO residents are being asked to vote for a massive all-time record $800M bond issue, meaning that all property-owning residents would see significant tax hikes for at least the next few decades, it's more important than ever to understand how some politicians appear to be conspiring with business leaders to reap a disproportionate share of the taxpayer spoils. Why would individuals and corporations, including a great many KCMO non-residents, be making political contributions in 2015/2016/2017, let alone even thinking about our future municipal election in 2019? The answer, of course, is that they're solicited to make the contributions in exchange for votes, approvals, and/or favors. KCMO municipal government is so corrupt, that those doing business in the city have come to see the political contribution game as merely the cost of doing business. It's public corruption, poorly disguised behind a thin veil of secrecy."

Consultant Class Skepticism

"It is critical we ignore the poll numbers put out by the FAKE NEWS pundits. You’ve seen the avalanche of flyers clogging up trashcans and recycle bins and now today the mayor called with a recording. Close to $1,000,000 has been or will be spent to convince voters this BIGGEST TAX INCREASE IN KANSAS CITY HISTORY is good for them. With that kind of money we have to wonder what are they hiding? Could it be proverbial “Bait and Switch”? Looks more like it everyday! "

Big Biz Donations And Allegations Of Corrupt Council Members

"While KCMO is asking for more of our money, how can we be sure that our increased property taxes won't be funneled to a connected company who then turn around and give that money to re-elect Councilmembers? It's government money laundering and appearance of corruption that everyone should be asking about . . ."

You decide . . .

  1. One more thing you should highlight here TKC.

The people who support the go bonds don't live in KCMO. They're living in the suburbs and supporting taxes that they won't have to pay.

  2. The funding my special interest groups may be backing off. I only got two flyers in the mailbox today.

  3. Let's see, I pay earnings tax, transportation improvement district tax, community improvement district tax and City Hall needs more money? They have enough money already, need to work on spending it wisely.

  4. The amounts of money that these insider special interests spend, first on campaign contributions to be sure easily-manipulated electeds get to 12th and Oak, and then for these issue campaigns are nickels and dimes compared to what these folks get in return.
    Do the math.
A few hundred thousand is likely to get you access to hundreds of millions of unaccountable dollars available over decades.
    What a return on investment!
And no one either looking out for the taxpayer, overseeing accountability for results, or otherwise minding the store.
    A money machine!
    Frosty.

  8. I remember in the 1970's, when KCMO had an absolutely sterling reputation in the financial world. NYC had in effect gone bankrupt. Chicago and St. Louis were headed to junk bond status. But KCMO has a wonderful city financial officer named Jack Urie. He was nationally known for his integrity and fiduciary responsibilities. KCMO bonds (or "paper" as people in the trade called it) had a decent rating but would sell in the market like a AAA credit, all due to the fact that one guy wouldn't let anybody get away with anything. It's too bad that we don't have a Jack Urie now. This bond issue is gonna be very costly, and it will definitely affect the city's credit rating. We are going to end borrowing at title loan company rates if the foolish spending and borrowing continues.

  9. This is going to pass. DEAL WITH IT! if you live in KC, your going to pay. Not a damn thing any of you can do or say to change it. It's always the same group of mouth-breathers on this blog, Talk talk talk talk. Now your going to shut up and pay. You deserve to. You people aren't "insiders", "developers" or really anything of consequence or substance. You people exist to pay fealty to those of us that are. I make my living by getting into your pocket, and I have four vacations and a lake house to service this year, so pay up and shut up.
