TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! NORTHLAND GOP TARGETS GO BONDS & COUNCIL DUDE DAN FOWLER'S FINANCIAL RECORD!!!

Quick follow-up on a story we broke earlier in the week . . .

Here's an excerpt from an e-mail circulating far and wide among Northland political denizens and graciously sent our way from TKC readers across the bridge . . .

The title and most of the text attempt to hit two Democratic Party birds with one stone . . .

CAN WE TRUST DAN FOWLER WITH $800 MILLION ?

Money line . . .

"Councilman Dan Fowler is the committee chair of the KCMO ethics committee and really hasn't done much while on the council other than vote for every TIF or developer handout. Now he's facing a strong Northland challenger so it's time to examine his record . . . While KCMO is asking for more of our money, how can we be sure that our increased property taxes won't be funneled to connected companies?"

The e-mail blast contains a great deal of gossip with some MO ETHICS documentation regarding Mr. Fowler's campaign and political allies . . . Two years before the election, it's interesting to see the GOP already working hard to claim more territory out north whilst expressing their discontent with the GO Bond campaign.

  1. Councilman Dan Fowler is the committee chair of the KCMO ethics committee and really hasn't done much while on the council other than vote for every TIF or developer handout. Now he's facing a strong northland challenger so it's time to examine his record.

He appointed Valerie McCaw as his PIAC representative. Ms. McCaw owns an engineering company called VSM Engineering that does work for the City. She is one of the city's women business enterprise vendors and gets a great deal of work solely because of gender.

How can someone who is a city vendor be on a committee that recommends where the City spends its money? Either she has to recuse herself or she can't submit to work on city contracts funded through PIAC. Has anyone looked at the projects Fowler has funded with PIAC funds and asked if Ms. McCaw is under contract on any of them? I bet if someone looked in the right places the answer is yes.

How much has Ms. McCaw given the Fowler campaign? Check the ethics reports and you will find it's something.

While KCMO is asking for more of our money, how can we be sure that our increased property taxes won't be funneled to a connected company who then turn around and give that money to re-elect Fowler? It's government money laundering and appearance of corruption that everyone should be asking Fowler about.

  4. Looks like a GOP political hit piece to me. But, potholes don't have a political party -- unless these guys want the GOP to adopt them.

Some folks must be seriously fond of bad roads to be against these GO Bonds. Or just that politically ambitious.

    1. The City has proven itself irresponsible, incompetent, and corrupt. Why on Earth would anyone vote them almost a billion dollars to grift away to their heart's content?

  5. KCMO is too big square mile wise. Should be broken up into two or three cities. Crossing county lines is not politically correct.

  6. Never heard of the guy! Fuck your GO bond! Fuck this shitty city!

  7. Heather Hall is behind this. She wants to bring right-wing Clay County nuts, like her, to City Hall. Lydia McEvoy is her best friend.

  8. Fuck you Sly James. I'm voting no on this piece of shit.
