TKC EXCLUSIVE FACT CHECK!!! INSIDER WARNING: KANSAS CITY GO BONDS WON'T PAY TO REPAIR HOMEOWNER SIDEWALKS!!!

The Kansas City GO Bond campaign has been called out continually for a lack of honesty and downright deceptive claims regarding the specifics of a proposed 40-year tax increase.

To wit . . .

THANKS TO KICK-ASS CITY HALL INSIDERS FOR CALLING OUT CAMPAIGN RHETORIC ABOUT SIDEWALK REPAIR THAT WON'T BENEFIT KANSAS CITY HOMEOWNERS!!!

First, our attention was called to this seemingly innocuous tweet from Council Lady Jolie Justus attempting to champion the new taxes . . .

Now here's the word . . .

"TKC, you should inform your readers that that GO BONDS WILL NOT HELP HOMEOWNERS PAY FOR NEW SIDEWALKS . . . I see several council members and politicos hinting otherwise. Check the muni-code. The Go Bonds won't be spent to improve sidewalks near homes because that's primarily the responsibility of homeowners."

And so, just a quick bit of Google research offers FACT CHECK PROOF that Go Bonds might be used to improve sidewalks but not those near Kansas City homes.

Check the KCMO passage on sidewalks rules & regs:

"City Code 64-243 holds property owners responsible for the curbs, sidewalks and drive approaches abutting their property. The Director of Public Works (PW) ensures needed repairs are made. If an investigation is performed, and out of repair sidewalks are found, the PW department must make sure repairs are made. If repairs are not made then the Director may have the repairs made and the costs assessed to the property owner."

And so . . .

ONCE AGAIN KANSAS CITY POLITICOS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT BY OUR KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY SELLING TAXPAYERS BAIT AND SWITCH BENEFITS OF GO BONDS!!!

Sidewalk improvements are nice but the GO Bond campaign selling this improvement to neighborhoods as a form of "investment" is yet another deceptive tactic from a campaign that has been caught obfuscating the facts of these new taxes time and time again.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. That's not the worst of what they're trying to get away with but I guess it deserves a mention.

It's not an "investment" Sly, it's a tax.

    1. I get it and it might be worth reminding people.

But what I'm seeing is a lot worse. KCMO is really missing Pat Gray here, he would have been much more precise with the campaign language and there's no way he would have let all of these tweets go out without coordinating them and keeping everyone on message.

Sly as poster boy is a bad move. This is just another amateur campaign in KC and they deserve to lose. The only thing they've got on their side is that the pot smokers might feel sorry for them and take everybody along for the ride.

    2. That's all well and good, but where are the yard signs against the go bonds? it's a shame that nobody bothers to run a real campaign against all of these taxes that are passed during these kind of elections.

  2. Par for the course. These are the same people who promised that if the E-Tax vote passed that they wouldn't cut city services. E-Tax vote passed and 5 minutes later they laid off a bunch of police officers. So this bait and switch is par for the course for #KorruptCity. Same shit different day.

  3. Jolie Justus is a fat lying twat licking cunt. And cunt is a nice word. She should be sued for this false ad.
But I'm sure she can blame it on a campaign worker. Sooner or later they will pay for the lies they live and spread.

  4. Make or buy a sign that says Vote NO on 1-2-3. Why should someone spend their money to run a vote no campaign. People need to figure out these proposals only benefit the 1% of KC and that is why they are willing to spend $750,000 to get $800 million. If I spend $750,000 for vote no campaign, what do I get?

  5. If the city will remove the city-planted sweet gum tree that's tearing up my sidewalk, I'd be thrilled to pay to fix the sidewalk.

  6. So Jolie is a LIAR. But she is so sensitive and clean. Her LIES make me sad.

  7. 8:34, is the tree on your property or the city's? I thought that homeowners' properties extended past the sidewalk to the street?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hey Justus! Great job on that anticrime commission you're working on! Only 20% more murders than last year! Useless grifters all.

  9. Interesting just a year ago SLie was bragging about us being in the strongest revenue position we've been in for decade!

  10. The GO Bond will actually help homeowners pay to replace their sidewalks. Yes it is the responsibility of the homeowner, but GO Bond funds will help.

  11. Vote NO K.C. this tax will be on your personal property too!!
The first year not so bad, but after that you will be slammed every year for forty years, with WAY MORE than the first year!
The city is pulling heart strings with the animal shelter, and woe is me, with the northeast museum. DON'T DO IT. VOTE NO!

Kansas City streets are a mess and the city wants new sidewalks???? BULL... and that's not for homeowners, you still have to pay to fix your own sidewalk on top of the tax.

Tell the city to also enforce the graffiti laws the city looks terrible!

    VOTE NO 123 THE END

  12. Even if it does cost say 1,000,00 dollars to fix your sidewalk, do you want to pay it one time, or do you want to pay it year after year???

    NOT FAIR

    VOTE NO

  13. 8:57: The tree is between the sidewalk and the curb. It may be my property, but it's a city easement and a city-planted tree.

  14. If repairs are not made then the Director may have the repairs made and the costs assessed to the property owner.

    may.

    May.

    MAY

    may

    [mey]

auxiliary verb, present singular 1st person may, 2nd may or (Archaic) may·est or mayst, 3rd may; present plural may; past might.

    (used to express possibility):
    It may rain.

So once again the truth is twisted.

Justus isn't fit for any elected position.

  16. With around two years to go in Sly's tenure, the wheels are coming off his circus calliope.
    Promises not kept.
Hype turning out to be empty.
    Claims and assertions proven false.
Eco devo projects not meeting financial objectives.
    Increasing crime, violence, and murders.
    Lost credibility.
    Police chief retiring.
    Continued poor basic services.
    Ever-increasing water and sewer bills.
Publicly backing the wrong horse in a presidential campaign.
Making believe the city can make a difference in issues in which it plays no role.
Endless marches, protests, and petition drives.
The long-term commitment of funds for pointless legacy projects.
    Debt, debt, and more debt.
A legacy of make-believe accomplishments and insider hand-outs.
    And many many missed opportunities.

  17. A $14 million dollar animal shelter!? I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Going to need 800 million to pay for the police chief's retirement.

  19. I was puzzled by the claim that the GO bonds would pay for sidewalk repairs. My mom bought a house in KCMO in 1940. Her sidewalk was replaced at least twice since then. Both times she was billed for every foot of sidewalk, and the bill was due right away. No mercy for those living on a fixed income. Pay or get penalized. We taxpayers have no way of knowing where our money is going. KC is the bait-and-switch champion of the area. Don't swallow their promises. You'll end up choking.

  20. This would be a great time for citizens to engaged that shitflake civil disobedience and toss their sidewalks out in the street.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Tell SLY we want the "Report Card" to tell us where the money is going -BEFORE- he spends it. The report card he is going to send is like toilet paper it will "clean up" after the mess after the fact.

  22. All I am telling him is NO NO NO
