TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! PREZ TRUMP BUDGET KILLS STREETCAR EXPANSION AND NOW HOMELESS THREATEN KANSAS CITY BIZ ALONG DOOMED TOY TRAIN LOW RIDERSHIP ROUTE!!!

Despite the rigged, gerrymandered, secret vote coming up on April 5th . . . Prez Trump's new budget looks like it could effectively kill all hope for the proposed toy train streetcar extension. Tragically, the aftermath of this decision leaves a blighted and somewhat dangerous line for locals to confront.

To wit . . .

CHECK OUT THIS KICK-ASS TKC INSIDER TESTIMONY REGARDING CITY MARKET BIZ COPING WITH TOY TRAIN STREETCAR BLIGHT!!!

Here's the word . . .

"The top pic is from Google Street View of a building near 6th and Delaware along the streetcar line, that was recently sold to a developer in Denver."

"This pic is more recent and is referenced from the article above. Note the missing bench. Not mentioned in the article is that the bench was removed by the previous owner due to increased numbers of homeless people riding the streetcar, congregating nearby and harassing tenants in the building. One of the tenants recently relocated to different space downtown away from the streetcar."

And once again, despite so many assurances and promises from City Hall . . . The jobs, development and "economic engine" has yet to take hold along the toy train line even though so much of the development is already taxpayer subsidized.

You decide . . .

  1. Trump pulling the plug on the thing might be one of the biggest favors he has ever given to Kansas City.

Cutting TIGER Grants give KC a chance to think about real transit efforts and the real needs of this city. Not something forced on us by way of a corrupt election.

  2. We have yet to see a full year from the streetcar. Good or bad, let's take a minute and look at performance and results before we cast judgement either way. Sorry TKC, but it's too late to pull the plug on this thing. We're stuck with it. By that same token, we can't think about extending it until it is determined if the goals of the first line have been met. I still see a lot of empty buildings and storefronts on Main. There is still a lot of work left to do on the "starter" line.

  3. Nobody said it was too late to pull the plug on the two million dollar homes in beacon hill.... it's never too late to rethink a bad idea.

  4. Not mentioned in the article

Because it's not true. A car hit it.

    AREN'T FACTS GREAT?

    You should try them, Tony.

  5. Aww Tonezie, am I gonna have to explain the federal government budget process to you again?

Because you speak with such certainty!

" money and grant funding...has been slashed.

"THE STREETCAR BOOM UNDER PREZ OBAMA HAS NOW BEEN CUT"

"...the streetcar funding now at FULL STOP"

HAS BEEN slashed. NOW BEEN cut. FULL STOP.

Well, buddy pie, the President proposes and the Congress disposes.

    Go find Jack the Ripper.

  8. Maybe if they charge for the streetcar it will stop the homeless from using it as a sleeping train. Then the developers can give the tenants of the $1800/month apartments along the streetcar line, a free streetcar pass.

  9. *Yea, homeless people all live down at Union Station and take the streetcar uptown to sit on benches near the River Market.* SARCASM.....Ever consider there were homeless people living under the Broadway Bridge, long before the streetcar came along. They will sit wherever their tired, beat up bodies can find a comfortable spot. Blaming the streetcar is just dumb and illogical.

  10. I doubt anyone is blaming the streetcar for homeless people. Rather the suggestion is the streetcar is a magnet - moving them from under the Broadway Bridge as you suggest to the doorsteps of businesses along the streetcar route (as was expected so long as the ride is free.)

Issues are the need to help the homeless and also recognize that a free streetcar ride attracts them to the businesses and residences along the route.

  11. The bench was struck by a car.

My God you people are breathlessly stupid beyond belief.

  12. Why would the homeless want to ride the toy train? They have the run of the downtown library.

  13. Just have your dollar bills ready there is no such thing as a free lunch the metro riders come up with a three dollar day pass the toy train riders Wear an Tommy Bahamas shirt and Rolex, and want to ride for free

The one guy that looked like he belonged was singing to himself.
I fully support this! Unless I have to pay.

I intend to ride it some time next year.

  15. Drip, Drip. One by one, we are going to start seeing cities abandoning their retro idea of streetcars when Bus Rapid Transit is cheaper, faster, and more flexible.

  16. The building cited is a block from the Broadway Bridge genius.

  17. At least I'm glad to see that Tony is keeping the streetcar consultants working.

They're really not that far removed from being hobos.

  18. Where does it say that a car hit the bench?

    Got a link?

    TYPICAL STREETCAR LIARS.

  19. Perhaps someone could ask the building owner about the bench and the relocated tenant.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe we could just look around at all the homeless in the City Market. It's pretty obvious they are out in full force now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. KC certainly does have a homeless problem but I don't think calling them HOBOS is the answer. Let's see if we can place them and help them. One of the best projects we've seen is veterans building smaller houses for homeless veterans. Let's focus on the positive rather than tearing each other down.

    A few comments up, duh.

  24. Why didn't the first streetcar expansion plan meet with voter approval?

    ReplyDelete
  25. The streetcar serves as an example that every fucking thing boons do is dependent on a government handout.
