TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! LITANY OF UNFINISHED KANSAS CITY PET PROJECTS THREATEN CITY HALL COFFERS AND APRIL 4TH 1-2-3 GO BOND CAMPAIGN!!!

Among voters and residents there is widespread doubt and skepticism about the future of Kansas City considering quite a few local promises unfulfilled so far.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WARN US THAT PESKY QUESTIONS REGARDING UNFINISHED KANSAS CITY PET PROJECTS PRESENT THE GREATEST THREAT TO GO BOND VICTORY!!!

Here's a local working list:

Fact Check: There's Not Enough Cash For Remodeling Kemper Arena

An important development in this saga that has been lost in the mix:

Kemper Arena Renovation Threatened By Possible Cuts To Missouri's Historic Tax Credits

Translation . . .

KEMPER NEEDS MORE CASH AND KANSAS CITY INSIDERS FEAR CITY HALL WILL BE LEFT HOLDING THE BILL FOR A SKETCHY SPORTS PLAN!!!

Our blog community has noted time and time again that that math for this project doesn't add up and the redesign has been dramatically underestimated while it's unlikely that parents are going to pay to take their rugrats down to the railroad tracks to play hoops.

Meanwhile . . .

The Proposed Downtown Kansas City Convention Hotel Has FAILED To Attract Enough Investors And Needs More Cash

We're still waiting for that "groundbreaking" that will hopefully be more than ceremonial. In the meantime, KCMO remains one of the largest investors in a project that has failed to inspire much confidence in this cowtown reclaiming its fame as a tourist destination.

Streetcar Advocates Claim The Toy Train Is Unfinished And The Extension Threatens Midtown Biz With More Taxes

Despite declining ridership, serious questions about compressor/brake trouble and a parking crisis impacting surrounding small biz . . . The paid consultant class for the streetcar INSIST that an extension is a good idea. Nevertheless, the Trump Administration has nixed streetcar funding from their budget and so the cost would likely be passed on to local tax-weary residents.

Accordingly . . .

KANSAS CITY GO BOND SUPPORTERS HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY CONFRONTED WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY GIVEN SO MANY HALF FINISHED LOCAL PROJECTS DESPERATELY SEEKING MORE MONEY!!!

In fairness, the answer from the campaign, the Mayor and City Hall has been a "report card" that will grade the annual spending of GO Bond money along with council members looking to form another committee to make a NON-BINDING resolution when it comes to sidewalk priorities.

A reality check from an insider . . .

"I don't blame people for distrusting City Hall. We're talking about BILLIONS OF DOLLARS over the years and there are almost no guarantees in the ballot language other than idea that we're going to build a new animal shelter at some point. Other than that, KC can borrow against the money, they can reassign the projects and the City Manager can reverse course at his discretion. In every sense of the word, the GO Bonds are like a blank check and the only hope that they've really got to pass this effort is that fewer people turn up to vote."

Sadly, before the election that has been NO DEBATE or critical questions of the Go Bonds from any other news outlet than TKC and a few other blogs as voters are forced to rely on junk mail, fake news and social media chatter in order to make their choices on April 4th.

You decide . . .

  1. It should be obvious to even you Tk.

They need this money for the airport, hotel, streetcar and anything else. There may be some new roads and even a sidewalk or two but it's this is going the same place all the other money is going. In the pockets of developers. Without any guarantees, what would any reasonable person expect?

    Sorry.

    2. Can only agree about the reporting of all this. There was one column that said that voting against the bonds was okay. It was buried off the front page and hardly got any response at all. Such a shame that KC can't have better options. We all agree that we need sewer repair, sidewalk repair and better streets. But asking to trust City Hall with not guarantees is just not a good deal.

  3. 2:06, you're absolutely right. They will take the money for the streetcar and keep giving the apartment developers free 15 or 20-year tax abatements. The developers don't even live in Kansas City and many are out of state, but the city wants us taxpayers to give the developers a break Let the developers pay for the improvements by taxing them.

  5. This vote is in the bag. We have no way of telling who voted for what. We have to take their word for it. Whether or not 10,000 people or 10 people vote, it will still pass with a huge majority because the power brokers have greased some palms in City Hall. More property taxes and nothing to show for it. That's what I predict.

  6. Hopefully people will get out and vote this down. No accountability to where the money goes is a sign of pet projects

  7. If you love kansas city, vote against 1 & 2.

  8. Sure the street car will receive huge amounts of this money. Plus the airport as well was the plan all along. See what they will do is as they have done in the past and vote to pass some of their Emergency Ordinance's and Emergency Fuck the Taxpayer Scams that will suck all this money up as fast as it shows up.

Toot Toot here we come Plaza will be the theme towards the end of next week. Oh and the doggie place, ha ha well they will say their heart was in the right place but pressing matters needs the money more than some dogs do.
