TKC Blog Community Taking Macabre Bets: How Long Until Monarch Midtown Kansas City Hipster Coffee Shop Is Robbed???

Monarch gets well-deserved loved from Kansas City media and these two hipsters starting a biz in Midtown Kansas City should get a lot of credit. But let's look at the facts . . . About five years ago a coffeeshop across the street was forced to close down after constant robberies, the former jazz club across the street couldn't make it work because of security issues and HUGE EGOS . . . And just about every other place near this location struggles with a litany of hobo trouble.

We want these hipster to succeed . . . And while they say that "Hollywood is the only place where you can die of encouragement" . . . Condescending media coverage in Kansas City also presents a clear & present danger to residents and small biz who aren't presented of a realistic picture of this town.

Don't get it twisted, we wish this duo the very best but a critical discussion of crime along the worsening Broadway corridor is more important than Kansas City cheerleading . . .

  1. If it's such a dangerous location, how can those restaurants still be in business? I've eaten at two of the three - good stuff. It's getting to be a vibrant area, but I would not want to be there in the wee hours.

  2. The area used to be terrible as in 10 years ago. It has improved and I think it has potential. You still have to watch your ass down there.

They should be okay if they close before dark and they're in their cars and out of there by sun down.

Coffee is an early morning business. I wish them luck.

  5. Time to take our city back and quit living in fear.
It is called gentrification and in another 10 years the artists and pioneers will be moving out when rent gets too high.

  8. Seriously, the owners might do well to hold monthly meet your neighborhood police and fire guys/gals. IMO, it's been good for the small coffee spot in downtown Dotte.

  14. This area wasn't safe 46 years ago when I lived at 37th & Central. We didn't go out at night unless we absolutely had to. When we drive THROUGH the area today, there are still shady characters hanging out. I don't regret moving. I do wish any business lots of luck.
