KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department computer system is down Friday morning. Darin Snapp, Public Information Officer with KCPD, told 41 Action News that the outage also effects phone lines, but not 911. When 41 Action News tried to call dispatch operators around 5:15 a.m., the line continuously gave a busy tone.

The state's unemployment rate edged slightly lower in February, according to preliminary estimates Friday by the Kansas Department of Labor. The labor department said the February 2017 rate was 4 percent, compared with 4.1 percent in January and February 2016.

Thunderstorms are likely to develop later today. There's a 60 percent chance of rain and storms Friday afternoon. The main threats will be hail, damaging winds and lightning. Nickel to quarter-size hail is possible with storms that develop. "The risk of severe weather is low, but it's there," KMBC meteorologist Nick Bender said.
