Garrett S. Griffin, the author of "Racism in Kansas City: A Short History," will speak on the origins of the book and troubling current trends in white thought in KC and elsewhere.
His book is a study of Kansas City’s darkest moments—slavery, the border war, the Civil War, bombings of black homes, lynchings, the segregation of neighborhoods and schools, the civil rights struggle, the Black Panther movement, the 1968 race riot, assassinations in the 1970s, the infamous Missouri v. Jenkins U.S. Supreme Court case, and the racial inequities that still plague Kansas City today. Threaded throughout Racism in Kansas City are stories of those who fought ardently against racist policies—and won.
The book's foreword was written by Alvin Brooks.

When I was a kid, some in Latin cultures portrayed "whiteness" to be decidedly desirable. Comments like, "My babies/grandkids/all MY SIDE has the (fill in the blank with a known Europa villa in your circle or say something like Seville, Madrid, or Castillian) features". Straight or looser curled tresses##pale shades of brown to blonde hair##blue, green, and light brown eyes##slender nose##almond shaped eyes##medium full lips##and very light tan to WHITE BRIGHT DAY AND NIGHT!!! Sunscreen, hats, and patio umbrellas were abuela's friends.
I saw enough racism on this authors Facebook page to tell me this isn't a book taking a fair look at fucking anything.

ReplyDeleteYou know, other than a few haters. This is the only honest discussion I've seen of this book. At least it gets people talking about the topic rather than just patting each other on the back and heaping praise on so many leaders who have failed.
ReplyDelete6:37 I knew a woman from New Mexico who was descended from one of the original Spanish names. She was super hot and looked about 10 years younger than her real age. I would have so hit that if circumstances were right. She hated the way the immigrants were fucking up the Spanish language.
