The Kansas City Late Night Ruckus

For our most dedicated fans of the Kansas City discourse . . . Here's the GOLD STANDARD of the local political conversation from the power players and big timers who tell most voters what to think.

Checkit:

"Mike Shanin interviews Dr. Matt Naylor, President and CEO of the National WWI Museum, about the new expansion and what visitors should expect. Then Terry Riley, Crosby Kemper III, Annie Presley and Jim Heeter discuss the details of April's infrastructure bond issue, the absence of the minimum wage issue on the April ballot, Steve Rose's CFRG criticism, Trump's inauguration and the Women's March."

Take a look:

Hopefully, more for the morning update...STAY TUNED!!!

Comments

  1. Steve Rose seemed surprised at the amount of criticism that he received on his column. He shouldn't be.

  3. All-stars? Sorry but Jim Heeter and Terry Riley are two of the worst panelists in the current rotation.

Heeter continuously spews political speak and almost never takes a real position (there are some on this side and some on that side, blah, blah, blah).

Riley often can't seem to decide exactly what he wants to say and bumbles around while trying to make a point.

And, who knew Crosby Kemper was such an avid supporter of the women's march and apparently hates Trump. So, I guess he voted for Hillary??

  5. I always enjoy hearing Mr. Kemper's views, because he's intelligent, articulate, and independent-minded.

After pointing out to Ruckus that they never had Republican women on the panel, I believe I first saw Annie Presley make an appearance in Summer 2016. She's not on often enough, but always has good thoughts to share.

Terry Riley, whom I disagree with on most topics, actually had one of his better appearances this week.

I don't care for Jim Heeter at all, sorry to say. He has always come across as artificial, pandering, self-centered, and spewing the consensus from the Downtown Council.

RAISING CAIN OR THE MINIMUM WAGE?
Crosby Kemper had the best comments on this topic, while Annie Presley scored with "infra-marginal" and the correlation between income and benefit programs.

    $800M LIFETIME OBLIGATION
No! Not your wife and kids, we're talking about KCMO fiscal mismanagement. Kemper wins this topic as well, though to be fair, not everyone had a turn.

CFRG VS. ROSE RUMBLE ON THE TARMAC!
Riley had good comments on democracy and the airport. Kemper body slams Rose with, "I thought citizens were the government." Presley observes that if citizens believe their government is unresponsive, as in KCMO, groups like CFRG are a natural consequence. Note: Jolie Justus doesn't answer questions put forth concerning the proposed new terminal.

    FORGOTTEN AND IGNORED
KC Star? CNN? No, it's the American Silent Majority. Good comments from Presley, while Riley was overly dramatic with concern. Kemper makes a good point about the prevalence of "victimization" in our society.

Here's a TOAST to Annie Presley: I learned for the first time from a senior member of my extended family that they went to school with your father. He reported that Ms. Presley's father was one of the finest men he knew in college.

And, as is usual, Mike Shanin ruled with an iron fist in a velvet glove.
