Not realizing that everybody on social media is their own editorial board and favorite pundit . . . Here's a quick glimpse of print media slap-fighting amid shrinking circulation and falling ad revenue: The Kansas City Star's new editorial board makes mealy-mouthed debut

ReplyDeleteEditorial: Giving President Donald Trump a chance
ReplyDeleteThe Kansas City Star editorial board
I object to so much of what has been written here, it's difficult to begin my critique. So, let's begin at the beginning.
We're told this editorial is a product of The Kansas City Star editorial board. Well, by my count, there are 7 individuals on this newly constituted board, and I don't see any names listed beneath this editorial title, assuming ownership for these words. Ms. Nelson, are readers to believe that 7 individuals contributed to this short piece? The reason why this point is important, is because The Kansas City Star's policy is to reject any submission from an unidentified author. If Ms. Nelson wishes to indicate that all editorial board members contributed to, or agreed with this "Giving President Donald Trump A Chance", then she should indicate it was a unanimous decision. Please take as an example the protocol used by such groups as The Federal Reserve, the U.S. Supreme Court, and our own U.S. Congress.
Based upon the recent solo writings of board members, I'm convinced at least some of them have not, and will not give President Trump a chance. It's quite clear from their writing that they wholeheartedly supported the candidacy of Hillary Clinton and despised every aspect of Donald Trump, going so far as to propagate blatant lies against him. Of the 7 editorial board members, I'm confident that I can identify at least 5 of the Democratic Party persuasion, based upon their previous work product. Ms. Nelson, do you understand why so many are already disappointed in your newly assembled board, when they'd been led to believe that a more balanced approach was forthcoming?
Now, let's review some of your very words from this editorial, which stand in stark contrast to the notion that your intent is to give President Trump a fair chance:
(3)
ReplyDelete"And some of his appointments, although not all, are worrisome."
"The suggestion we shouldn’t take his statements literally is absurd — how else are we to understand him?"
"And when he makes demonstrably false claims, he isn’t being “colorful” or “populist.” He’s lying."
Ms. Nelson, I strongly contend that this editorial is a striking contradiction between reality and your fictional stated aim of pursuing a balanced truth.
It's extremely clear from reading this editorial that The Kansas City Star stands opposed to President Donald Trump. Board members did not support him during the campaign, and have no intention of supporting his administration going forward, all to the detriment of a goal which seeks to inform and unite the American public. Colleen McCain Nelson was in fact highlighted by President Obama in this video clip where she fed him an opportunity to bash Donald Trump.

My fellow readers, The Kansas City Star remains an entrenched advocate for the Democratic Party, and as the editorial above clearly demonstrates, they will only offer sparingly back-handed compliments to President Trump going forward. Upon the announcement of her hiring, The Kansas City Star reported "Colleen said she wants to provide readers with a constructive editorial voice that is “intellectually consistent but not partisan” and that still can be unpredictable." Right out of the gate, this editorial board has failed. They are clearly partisan, and intellectually inconsistent.
I thank you for your time.
Geez, 11:25, you should be happy, they are all white people.
