Given that the schmaltzy and painfully saccharine season of holiday sentiment is nearly complete . . . And with respect to the ghost of Emmet Kelly . . . Let's take a look at an important issue for the cold, hard winter ahead. Fact: Increasingly violent and drug addicted hobos pose a clear and present danger to newbie upscale downtown interlopers and the rampant gentrification that's committed to clearing out low income residents near the downtown loop.
Just a couple of examples . . . Hobos violence recently endangered local police and, so we don't seem cruel, don't forget that hobos are often subjected to a great man dangers of rough streets themselves. And don't forget so many KANSAS CITY HOBO CAMPS that constantly need to be cleared out and usually contain some really nasty drugs, weapons and probably all the spare change stolen after nearly every downtown car window smashing . . .
But let's dig just a bit deeper . . .
An advocacy organization notes that this wicked little town is rather naughty when it comes to hobos, John Rambo or any suspected vagrant passing through . . .
"In Kansas City, the Homeless Services Coalition found that the police on the street frequently stopped homeless people, because “they looked suspicious.” In addition, many homeless individuals reported being verbally or physically abused by police officials. One homeless man commented, “They have pushed me against the police car, searched my coat, kicked me, and knocked me to the ground.” There are several laws in Kansas City associated with homelessness, which prohibit aggressive begging, loitering, trespassing, and camping."
Worse still, let's not forget that the current City Manager AND more than a few members of the Council wanted to make it illegal to help hobos by throwing them a sandwich.
Again, this time of year brings about a great deal of sympathy for those lovable scamps trolling around the urban core when they aren't using the public library or Starbucks in order to wash up and wait around for most of the day.
Here's a new clip dedicated to keeping hobos warm in Kansas City with hand-me-down coats even though man-made global warming made sure the temperatures were above 50 degrees for most of the daylight hours . . .
To wit . . .
SHOULD WE CONFRONT THE GROWING INFLUX OF DANGEROUS HOBOS ON KANSAS CITY STREETS WITH CHARITY OR POLICE CRACKDOWNS?!?!
You decide . . .
These aren't "hobos" but a lot of them are people with mental health issues or veterans who still haven't been able to cope with life after the service.
ReplyDeleteThe tiny house movement for veterans is a a really good start. And most police work to give the homeless better access to resources.
As for bums who break out windows for loose change. if they don't cut themselves during the process, they usually are just addicts looking for money. Rather than cracking down on them. We need to think about treatment options.
Silly premise for a post.
ReplyDeleteGood clip of somebody actually working to help out the needy and the less fortunate in Kansas City.
Hipster trying to save the world is a nice, new spin. At least he wasn't trying to do it while taking a selfie. Good for him. There is hope!
ReplyDeleteHobos are people who work when they need to.
ReplyDeleteBums won't work at all.
The homeless are mentally ill.
Black people are a combination of the latter two.
i think he's using hobo as a euphemism to include different kinds of street people.
ReplyDeletereal hoboes were itinerant, traveling workers.
NO more visual blight on the Plaza!
ReplyDeletePer Wikipedia
ReplyDeleteA hobo is a migratory worker or homeless vagabond, especially one who is impoverished. The term originated in the Western—probably Northwestern—United States around 1890.[1] Unlike a "tramp", who works only when forced to, and a "bum", who does not work at all, a "hobo" is a traveling worker.
Hobo.....Poor and Homeless Man/Woman
ReplyDeleteTramp....Hillary Clinton
Bum......What most BLM members are.
I wish we had cool hobos in kc. Like in LA or NY. The kind that sleep on cardboard and piss themselves and wash with banana peels. They seem so preferable to the kind that randomly scream and ask for money.
ReplyDeleteSome of those coats would fetch some good hooch. We need some barter training. Put those coats to work for the economy.

ReplyDeleteQ: Hey Emmet, why the sad espresso?
A: I just came from a dark roast, and now this coffee tastes like green beans!!!
Sly and bozo Obama will be sending out a strongly worded message to solve this problem !
ReplyDeleteJust like the strongest worded message has worked well for the douchebag TRANNY fluid BITCH o homo bama with Russia , Cuba , China , Libia , Iran and Iraq ? NEXT year can't wait when all those swamp dwelling pansies are gone , replaced by real American hero freeom loving men !
ReplyDeleteYeah, hobo label is a diminutive, dismissive, and inaccurate. However, back when Richard Tripp (God rest his soul) was alive, he recognized that the little comforts that most of us take for granted such as giving away free coats went a long way. It might not seem like much, but for those who are in need, it means a lot
ReplyDeleteBring back the mental hospital; bring back the ASYLUM! They called it that for a reason.
ReplyDelete10:45, we can't put them in an asylum. It would be inhumane and make them feel bad. Much better to let them terrorize people before they die of exposure.
ReplyDeleteTiny houses, extended care facilities or detention for the dangerous ones. It is getting bad out there for anyone who has to walk on this city and that is what a lit of our leaders can't see.
DeleteLiberals don't want to think about the smell of poor people much less deal with the issues they've sworn to address and deal with as public administrators and public servants.
ReplyDelete^^^ Truth.
ReplyDeleteStreet people don't need coats and one meal here and there. A large part of them need mental health treatment in a facility they can't get out of. Sorry but the choice is that or they are on the streets at the mercy of stronger, meaner criminals and the weather.
ReplyDeleteOthers truly need someplace to stay while they get on their feet, a job on a bus route until they earn enough for a car and support if they have addictions.
Tiny houses for mean drunks and mentally ill people just spreads they problem out and ruins the neighborhood. It also trashes the inside of the tiny house.
I had a cousin that was brain damaged from drugs and a very mean drunk. A coat, meal or tiny house would not have solved his problems. A place to stay far away from drug availability would have helped. I doubt there was anything to do for his brain damage.
Here lies John Rambo, winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, survivor of countless missions behind enemy lines. Killed for vagrancy in Jerkwater, USA.
