On this fine and frosty Sunday morning we want to offer a switcheroo and post just a bit of Kansas City metro ethnography of the local blog, community news and social media scene.
Accordingly . . .
IN THIS EPIC KANSAS CITY METRO SOCIAL MEDIA TESTIMONY, SUPER DAVE STANDS STEADFAST AGAINST A SHAWNEE SOCIALITE WHO BANNED HIM FROM A LOCAL BLOG!!!
It's a sordid tale of alleged deceit, country club intrigue, harsh times, crowd funding and the future of community journalism.
Local newsies and others will know the cast of characters mentioned by SD but we'll let you do the math and remind everybody that they're probably guessing wrong. Yes, this is a blind item BUT . . . As far as community concern and relevance among these public figures goes . . . This perspective from Super Dave is important because it depicts debate over the future of online journalism, free speech along with a reminder that not all white guys get along with each other. These are all crucial topics to consider within the context of the local discourse.
And so, without further ado . . . Here's a glimpse into the brave new world of online journalism courtesy of a TKC comment favorite.

Sunday Free Speech Celebration From Super Dave:
Jay came up to me three or four weeks ago and wanted to know what my issue was with him. I asked him to clarify on what he thought my issue was. He wouldn’t say where, but somewhere I guess something was said about him seeking donations while living supposedly a good life . . . I told him I knew nothing about that but that I had publicly stated my displeasure’s with him for the simple reason that he banned me and never would explain why.
I then asked him if he really thought I was the only person who didn’t really care for him or his blog. I like to call it a blog because I heard he hates that. I also told him, that I’m still irritated with him for the simple reason he didn’t have the guts to confront me on the issue nor explain why he banned me. He told me that I had violated their rules on posting comments and that if I would read those rules I would understand why he banned me. I told him I had done such. I also told him Tracy reached out to him and he wouldn’t explain it to her either and made it clear to her it wasn’t even open for discussion, and that to me is a very self-centered banning of free speech way to handle his blog.
I told him that was the most piss poor reason I have ever seen to ban somebody from blog commenting about an incomplete story on what he deems is a supposedly news site. He took it as me harassing him and said that on previous occasions I had been far from nice with my comments. I told him that I thought anybody that disagreed with him would probably be considered as not nice. Then he went on to explain to me how his cars weren’t that good and how the ones he had traded in were so bad, blah, blah, blah, blah, like I was supposed to buy this line of extreme bullshit and he was living in almost complete poverty. I don’t know who said what was said, and I really don’t care because if somebody calls him on his lifestyle while he’s out begging for donations to keep his little blog going he should be man enough to address it in the correct fashion.
In short he does not want to give up good living or a good life in an attempt to make his little blog work. It’s very clear to see the guy cannot take any negative criticism and thinks he’s got the greatest thing going ever for Johnson County. I know for a fact a lot of business owners don’t like him they just flat don’t care for him, as one told me, “he so arrogant I want to punch him in the face but I can’t have them say anything negative about me in print either so I have to put up with him.” That’s why he doesn’t get any advertising the people that are probably supporting him are the few that you see in their posting on a regular basis and a few others.
But anyway that’s what took place and I look back on it and I kind of laugh because the guy is so out of touch with reality I sometimes wonder if he even knows what's really going on anywhere beyond the street of his own house.

ReplyDeleteWhen the newspaper and all the newspapers around KC stopped publishing opinion from different perspectives, they made way for this kind of exchange.
The written word used to be a way to debate and communicate different ideas, now online "discourse" is simply moving toward quick video statements. We can blame it on technology but the trend was set forward a long time before the Internet.
Better title: Serving up blogger beef for Sunday.

ReplyDeleteKCC is no longer allowing comments and the writers are starting to bitch about it over there. The writers over there like the comments, but only as long as they glorify them and the story they wrote. Those retards all get constant erections when they claim to be getting 50 or 100 comment totals per story. One only has to look at the comments to see that 50% or more of them were made by the author of the story themselves. I only look at KCC to see what Jack Poessiger is saying about the new movies. If you see this Jack, please get you own blog going for the movies please.
ReplyDeleteI think I know what the blog (smirk smirk) that is being talked about here is, I'm so glad the name was changed because that guy does not speak for me or many of the residents of my city like he thinks he does. Mostly women, such as my wife are the only ones who read it I do believe and most times she thinks the stories are wack as she puts it or personal opinions of the owners instead of being informative stories.

Who be trippin' ?
Dave has been a poster on many places for a long time. Like me, we were what you might call regulars at Kansas City Confidential a couple of years ago. But after a while, you can only deal so much with the overinflated egos there. People like Hearne and other blogs media websites and so forth probably dislike Dave because he responds with common sense and will make known his displeasure on a story full of lies or political horse manure. Dave a lot of the time in my eyes represents more the true feelings of the so called “Rural American” outlook on things and the liberals don’t like seeing such. I don’t always agree with what he says, but I can’t always say what he said, is wrong either. Chuck is another person who you see posting hard hitting facts a majority of the time and while I don’t agree with how he writes it sometimes, I can’t say the point he makes is wrong either. A lot of good commenters grace the pages of blogs here and elsewhere, who are hated only because they speak the truth and point out the writers as being narrow minded or simply full of rubbish. A good majority of those writers are so thin skinned; packing egos their butts can’t begin to support, thinking in their own minds they are the Kansas City version of The Inklings of Oxford. Tony here paints both sides of the story and you pick out what you like or don’t like. But as a writer he does make you think about the issue more than most around here do.
ReplyDeleteI support free speech for the most part as long as it makes a point or brings up facts. If you don’t like someone just say I hate this person and leave it at that. Everybody isn’t going to like everybody and that’s been a fact long before we all ever saw the whole wide world thing called the internet. The good thing about the internet is how it allows those who think they are God, better than everyone else or what they write is the best thing ever, to see just how wrong they really are. If negative comments are more than they can handle, then a change of careers might be needed. Life isn't easy and never was meant to be.
I support Dave. He deals with some of these jerks with more class than most.
ReplyDeleteInteresting back story. I like what Jay is trying to do but obviously he's got some challenges and learning how to deal with locals in Shawnee is part of the learning curve.

ReplyDeleteIf the person at 3:42 and I are talking about the same person then I support what he is saying. The SMP needs to be more opened minded about things and Jay a whole lot less arrogant towards people if he plans on making it with his adventure. Narrow minds with narrow views are what is killing the Star and it will Kill SMP if Jay does not change his operational habits. There is a lot of money here in NE Johnson County, but its obvious businesses but a few, are not giving him any advertising dollars and there is a reason for that.
