STATE SENATOR-ELECT JOHN RIZZO EMERGES FROM HISTORIC MISSOURI REPUBLICAN SWEEP AS KANSAS CITY DEMOCRATIC PARTY STALWART

Amid a massive tidal wave of Trump support and Republican dominance at the polls, John Rizzo eared an important achievement as the only newly elected Missouri Democratic Party State Senator last night.

His campaign was challenging and he didn't get any help from Kansas City's Democratic Party elite who were decimated at the polls last night.

Here's a rundown of the opposition and so-called "friendly fire" that confronted Mr. Rizzo:

- Some of the local unions double-crossed him and supported their cronies rather than his grassroots effort.

- The newspaper and many media outlets couldn't let go of old news and long ago political fighting that had been resolved in the minds of so many voters who have consistently sent State House Rep. John Rizzo back to Jeff City.

- A great many Midtown Kansas City Democratic Party women ran a divisive and vengeful primary campaign despite the fact that Rep. Rizzo has been a solid voice and vote for women's issues throughout his tenure.

An insider tells us:

"Johnny Joe winning last night is important because it shows that he has the support to stand on his own and his connection to the voters is based on him getting out there and talking to his constituents and supporting working people rather than taking his orders from Washington D.C."

During the course of his campaign Rep. Rizzo and his supporters knocked on over 6,000 doors and spent countless hours talking to just about every neighborhood and community group in his district.

What's disappointing and possibly lucky for the State Senator elect is that Kansas City's elite have excluded him from their private party. Mayor Sly James traveled to Columbia, MO to campaign for Democratic Party State Senate contender Stephen Webber rather than spend much time helping a Kansas City area Democratic Party closer to home. Webber lost last night.

Still, in the final analysis it was John Rizzo's dedication to his community and working people that powered him past Republican opposition and internal party strife has he earned a hard fought victory last night and in Kansas City he's last man standing among a historic Republican onslaught.

  1. TKC don't forget this:

The Star got election returns wrong last night.

They called the races inaccurately and didn't get this one right either. Looks like they were very shorthanded last night.

  2. Midtowners can be myopic. You couldn't tell them that Hillary was going to lose. Looks like Riz did himself a favor by staying away or they did him a favor by excluding him.

  3. Nothing like being a "stalwart" in a minority so small that the opposition has a veto-proof majority and the governor is also of the other political party.
Without followers a "leader" is just guy out there walking around.

  5. It's still a two party system. The cities still have autonomy. The state doesn't have the money to start kicking in doors and arresting people.

  6. I have a difficult time with the "grass roots" moniker given he, along with his consultant executed a $158,000 ad buy during the primary campaign. That ain't "grass roots" money, that's big St. Louis doner money.

  7. This wasn’t an election. It was a revolution.

It’s midnight in America. The day before fifty million Americans got up and stood in front of the great iron wheel that had been grinding them down. They stood there even though the media told them it was useless. They took their stand even while all the chattering classes laughed and taunted them.

They were fathers who couldn’t feed their families anymore. They were mothers who couldn’t afford health care. They were workers whose jobs had been sold off to foreign countries. They were sons who didn’t see a future for themselves. They were daughters afraid of being murdered by the “unaccompanied minors” flooding into their towns. They took a deep breath and they stood.

They held up their hands and the great iron wheel stopped.

    Salute!
