MAYOR SLY JAMES TOUTS TEST SCORE IMPROVEMENT FOR KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND PROGRESS TOWARD FULL ACCREDITATION DESPITE INCREASINGLY LOWER MISSOURI EDUCATION STANDARDS!!!
It's important to remember that Missouri dropping tougher Common Core standards facilitated better test scores in public schools across the state.
Put simply, longstanding rage from the Teacher's Union, parents and politicos against Common Core and similar testing that required more objective proof of what students were learning upon the completion of each grade level has been pushed back and newer standards are not only more lenient but also don't focus entirely on academics and test scores overall.
Reality check: NO Missouri school district scored in unaccredited range this year so readers can either believe that there's a massive statewide effort to boost education that's been somehow completely successful despite ongoing challenges . . . OR . . . The new standards are rigged.
Sadly, very few "journalists" want to contradict elected officials or desperately needed success for a long suffering public education system.
Here's more happy talk from City Hall today which extols the "accomplishment" which is exactly the opposite of what really happened.
Take a look:
Mayor James’ Statement on Kansas City Public Schools Announcement: Today’s announcement proves that if we continue to set high expectations for our kids, they will rise to meet them,” said Mayor Sly James. “I want to congratulate Kansas City Public Schools on this great step towards accreditation and I’m hopeful that KCPS will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure the success of their students. I fully support Superintendent Bedell’s efforts to continue pushing for excellence and I am grateful for his commitment to providing world class education in Kansas City, Missouri.
You decide . . .
Everybody gets a trophy! That's just how things are done now in KC and across the nation.

Kansas City schools still suck!
There, that should be easy enough to understand.
Common Core was a joke. Yes, some of the new benchmarks are more permissive but let's not pretend that the old methods were any better.

Now if Sly can just get the KCPS superintendent to announce that homicides are down and public safety if up in KCMO, making statements about events about which you have no responsibility and over which you have no control will be complete.
ReplyDeleteLet's all play make believe.
Frosty.
So is this blog now advocating for common core or any other Obama policy? because that would be a total 180 from Tony & the denizens
