Mixed bag today at City Hall.

Let's review that Kansas City Council legislative session quickly. Take a peek:

First and foremost . . .

- Luxury Plaza Blight Winning: InterContinental CID approved by Council after late amendment

- Mayor Sly's $250K Artsy Swope Park Party Victory: Approved In 11-2 Vote

- The Good News: The 3rd District Councilman Quinton Lucas Earned A Tax Incentive Ordinance Win . . .9-4 And Still Easy To Get Around By Way Of Emergency Ordinance . . .

And so, I guess we could still call this a good day as KCMO continues to approach 100 homicides VERY early in the year.

  1. Why should we have to pay for Sly's Congressional bid?

  2. RE: "The InterContinental Hotel earned its legal blight designation from the Kansas City Council on Thursday, October 6, thanks in part to a late amendment introduced by 5th District Councilman Lee Barnes, Jr. that swayed several council members.

The amendment to Ordinance #160669 creates a cooperative agreement between the City and the owner of the InterContinental Hotel that commits to a focus on local hiring and includes a $250,000 hotel contribution to help senior citizens remedy code violations. Barnes, who called the amendment a “collaborative effort” with fellow 5th District Councilwoman Alissia Canady, indicated that the $250,000 will begin with a $100,000 payment, and will be followed by subsequent payments of $25,000 annually."

In other words, the KC Council allowed the InterContinental owners to pay a $250,000 BRIBE in order to gain MILLIONS in benefits.

Only 1st District Councilwoman Heather Hall and 2nd District Councilman Dan Fowler used their brains and commonsense to vote NO. All others on the Council voting YES have SHIT FOR BRAINS!!!!!!

    1. Shit for brains is the understatement. $250,000 doesn't go very far when talking about repairing 100 year old structures. It wasn't a win for taxpayers at all.

  6. The art festival is a good thing. Rather spend on that than all of these other ripoffs billing KCMO.

  7. Come on 8:14 comment, what the hell?

The "art festival" was pulled out of Sly James' ass!

There is NO need for this art festival. If there was interest, or a way to make a profit from such a venture PRIVATE business would be pursuing it already.

Mayor James is to taxpayers.....like a .......deadbeat Dad is to his kids. While his kids go barefoot and hungry, James takes the grocery/clothing money down to the casinos and bars for a good time. He's always chasing after the get rich quick scheme, desperately hoping to be seen as a VIP.

Instead he's a VIIP, "very ignorant idiotic person."

  8. Sly is trying to improve KC and bring us together. That deserves support because so many people want to tear our community apart.

    1. Yeah, well then you and Slyme dry hump each other's legs while singing Kumbya and pretending how great KCMO is. The rest of us will continue to shake our heads at the reality; it's a cesspool.

  9. What is the Over - Under on people shot at the "Art" Festival?

  10. My God, enough is enough.

It takes 3500 signatures to get this on the ballot
so they people can let these idiots with no decency
know that the days of giving away our money is over.

If you think this one is bad, just wait. There are a
couple more coming up that will BLOW YOUR MIND.

Mark my words, I can get 3500 signatures in a weekend,
and I will. I helped create this mess and I will help
    clean it up.

Shame on you people, except the 2 no votes.

    Stay tuned

  11. Face it a CID is just a way for a business to raise it's selling price without the customer realizing it. Dishonest to the core and the city helps with this dishonesty. Imagine what the response would be if I owned a business and lied to the customer about how much the tax rate was. I would be sent to jail for fraud. But let the city put their OK on fraud and it's somehow "economic development".
