TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTERS DEMAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT 'MAKE A LIST' ACCOUNTING FOR SPENDING!!!

The upcoming election includes a couple of HUGE tax issues on the table for local voters that probably won't get much discussion anywhere else but among our blog community. Natch.

In a masterful move, City Hall put a much needed animal shelter update and the forefront of a tax campaign for A BILLION DOLLARS and pretty much disarmed most critics who love doggies.

For more those who are a bit more skilled at local rhetoric . . .

CHECK THIS IMPORTANT INFO ON KANSAS CITY TAX INCREASES DEMANDING CITY HALL AND JACKSON COUNTY MAKE A LIST OF ALL PROJECTS FUNDED FROM THE PROPOSED LEVY SPIKE!!!

Here's the word from Citizens For Responsible Government . . .

MAKE A LIST

Soon we will all be faced with a myriad of taxes, Streetcar tax, COMBAT (anti - crime) tax, $800,000,000 tax to pay bonds for infrastructure improvements and there will be more. We are suggesting as voters, we demand a full accounting before we agree to any more taxes. Remember what happened when we approved the recent EARNINGS TAX. We were told the E-Tax was for Police, trash, etc. Within weeks we lost 100 patrol officers and you’ve all seen the apologies from the City because of the failure of our trash pick up system. It’s time to show some caution and ask for additional information!

MAKE A LIST:

COMBAT TAX. What’s wrong with the voters paying this tax asking for a list? We have been told that 80 different agencies get parts of the tax, Who? CFRG and our followers would like to know:

1.) What are the names of the agencies getting the tax dollars? Name of Organization, Manager of Organization, phone numbers, address, How many dollars do they get, finally a breakdown of how they spend their dollars annually.

2.) How much money is generated by this tax? Total dollars ...

If there are 80 agencies sharing this bounty, we should know who they are and what they do with the money. Surely there is something we can measure. We all see what’s going on with crime in our city. If there is not a full accounting of these tax dollars, then maybe it should all go for replacing the 100 police officers we lost? What are your thoughts?

INFRASTRUCTURE TAX (BOND ISSUE): Same scenario. $800,000,000 WOW that’s a big number. Where’s it going?? If you look at City Hall expenditures we pay engineers, architects, consultants and attorneys millions of dollars every year for maintenance, repair, planning and projects. Don’t we have departments within the City to do this? Why does all this money go to non-city entities? Now they want us to hand over another $800,000,000. What have they done with the millions we pay in every year?? The money we pay in every year is supposed to pay for maintaining our city, not building streetcars, etc.

We are not suggesting voting for or against these issue (TAXES) at this time. We are suggesting the voters demand a LIST. We understand the bond issue is a multi-year project but surely some of the major projects can be laid on the table now. Give us something to measure! MAKE A LIST.

  2. That $800 million infrastructure property tax increase better include all the downtown freeloaders paying. That means no exemptions. Everyone pays!

  6. KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The rise of violent crime in Kansas City is getting national attention.

Kansas City was one of seven cities singled out in the FBI's report on crime statistics.

For cities with at least 400,000 residents, Kansas City's murder rate was the fifth highest. The homicide rate increased from 78 deaths in 2014 to 109 in 2015.

The report said that Kansas City, along with Chicago, Houston, Washington D.C., Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, were largely responsible for the national increase in crime.

  8. this is an outstanding comment.

it's the kind of good-government editorializing that is missing from the local newspaper.

nor are newspaper reporters digging into details on their own in search of truth. they're re-writing official talking points and releases.
