  1. The arts campus is $25 million plus so that a dozen ballerinas can have lunch at a downtown coffeshop. that's Kc urban planning for you.

  2. So now what about the UMKC streetcar extension to downtown that won't be completed until 2022 when UMKC has a fraction of their staff and students?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Does UMKC still have that bed bug problem?

    ReplyDelete
  4. MU deserves it.
Would never send my kid there.
Even if it means I pay out of state tuition.
My daughter has nothing to learn from that school.

  5. Was a Negroe set up or what? You win. I am a bad person. No fashion. No art. I have no talent. Blackface and all. White people win. Happy KC? Read more books kiddos.

  6. Guess what? Chicken butt and the balloons were funny! Debates coming. We shoot and film dead negroes in Missouri. Mayor, Police Chief, Senator, dead is dead. Child or adult. Film at 10:00...smile for the camera. It will come back to you.

  7. Yes they have a bedbug problem and now this. This is the second round of layoffs (my cousin was in the first) and the leaders have said there are more to follow. And for what? So they can build a campus no one needs when they can't afford the one they have? At our expense? Something is rotten in Denmark and this whole thing is sketchy. The libtards have lost their minds if they think we should foot the bill.

  8. Contrary to what one often hears from central bankers and their courtier economists, we cannot consume ourselves to prosperity.

  9. My son was in the first round of lay-offs. The bigger question is, how do they lay off people who have been there for DECADES, dedicating their years of service to a place they love? All the while getting paid salaries that are not competitive because they care. What's their reward? Get laid off, lose their pension and all the while, they have hired over 30 people since the lay offs have started. Where are the faculty? Why aren't they looking into all the Vice Provost positions that are being created for six figures; the former ambassadors that were hired just because they were friends with the Chancellor? There was an e-mail sent out that UMKC has its biggest freshmen class yet. They are not hurting financially. I have seen the numbers from his reports. They simply have a power hungry leadership team that doesn't care about staff or students. That's what you get when you put people from the corporate sector in power over an industry that is about learning and growth. They only understand hack jobs and creating their own kingdoms. Screw the little people. Oh, and the disabled people. Oh, and veterans. Oh, and single mothers. The people that were laid off have all of those things on their resume. I'm ashamed to have graduated from there. They will never see another donation from me again. I think I'll call my councilman about the millions generated from my tax dollars going to such a horrible place.

  10. The University system is down the toilet, not worth the money.
What the hell is there to learn at a place like that?

  11. Agree with ^^^^. If they'd layoff the losing athletics program: problem solved.

  12. RE: The University of Missouri - Kansas City touts itself as a "community partner" of City Hall

Which reminds me of 2 things related to this issue:

    1) The Mayor's wife has a strong affiliation with UMKC.

    2) I believe it was UMKC who had a hand in purchasing Mayor James' former Hyde Park house. I think it was disguised as part of a compensation package to attract an out-of-state professor (Conservatory of Music?).

  13. The athletic department loses a million dollars a year and gets subsidized by central administration. Why does UMKC have athletics? They should model themselves after the University of Chicago. Anyone who wants to go to a school with an athletic atmosphere is heading to MU or KU. Stay in your lane, Kangaroo.

  14. I have been told by a current employee that UMKC began layoffs several months ago. It appears that on the same day that staff is being laid off, new hires are coming in the door. How is this even possible? Rumor has it that the new hires are performing job functions that laid off staff was responsible for. Apparently a recent promotion and tenure event was held at the Intercontinental costing UMKC in the neighborhood of $100,000. How is this possible while people are being let go? So now, not only is the Intercontinental blighted (according to them), but also UMKC says they need $7,000,000 for the downtown arts campus (so ballerinas can have coffee downtown)

  15. Just keep in mind that the "chancellor" of UMKC is a failed business executive from Aquila and an insider pal of the Chamber swells.
So, just like what passes for KCMO city government, UMKC is simply another publicly-funded slush fund for the people who really run the city to draw money from for their latest BIG BIG deal.
Which currently is the streetcar expansion and downtown arts campus.
    It never changes.

  16. Leo Morton is completely unqualified to run a university even as mediocre as UMKC! Just a token corporate failure!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. But they had $40,000 to give to Webb Hubbels. Daughter.

  18. a MASSIVE restructuring that results in three layoffs?

Guess you didn't study math while you were there.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So absolutely EVERYTHING in Kansas City is run by grifters. Seems like the only reasonable conclusion I can make.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 12:01, think it through. A restructuring could be massive and yet result in no layoffs, or even in more hiring.

  21. That place is a toxic sinkhole being run into the ground by poor leadership. Sadly, it's students who suffer while the administrators line their pockets. I used to be proud I got a degree there. UMKC kills homes and dreams.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why weren't any of those jobs that have been hired for offered to the people laid off? I know that not everyone has the same skills but you can't tell me that wouldn't have worked for some of those people. How much has been paid to others to take over those people's duties and how many new jobs have been created at a higher level for the corporate overlords? They never let go of people who make six figures. It's always the administrative assistants and middle line workers. Why don't they take a look at anyone who makes over six figures and start with efficiencies there? Also, if UMKC is part of a four campus system, why does there have to be a head of finance, hr etc. on all four campuses? Wouldn't it be more cost efficient to have those jobs out of the System office instead? You could save millions in that alone. The rich get richer and the admins become unemployed. I'm ashamed to call that place my alma mater. None of my kids will be going there. There was a group of us that met at the Bloch school in the 80's that went on a vacation this summer. None of us would put on our alumni gear. That place has gone downhill. The stories that come out of there are immoral and unethical. Bring back the educators to run the place instead of a leadership team that doesn't have a Ph.D. among them. At least lifelong educators would put students, faculty and staff first. Henry Bloch should pull his money and give it to somewhere else. Park, Rockhurst, KU...anywhere but there.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Henry Bloch should have done that when that whole rankings thing happened and they paid those crook professors millions to walk away quietly.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would be interested to know the ethnicity of those fired since the university has a history of microaggressions and blatant discrimination of minorities particularly African American. Does anyone know that?

    ReplyDelete
  25. No surprise here. Sinking ship.
