TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! FEAR KANSAS CITY BROOKSIDE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR EXTENSION CONSPIRACY!!!
Given that another rigged Kansas City toy train election designed by local "leaders" has been proposed despite a public vote AGAINST the streetcar extension less than two years ago . . .
Right now, because just about everybody in Kansas City is angry to be back at work, let's examine some FIRST PERSON COMMUNITY JOURNALISM FROM OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY observing an emerging roadside conflict right out in the open near the Plaza.
To wit . . .
OUR KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY FEARS CITY HALL CORRUPTION AMID ANOTHER RIGGED STREETCAR ELECTION GIVEN PREEMPTIVE STREET CONSTRUCTION TO ACCOMMODATE THE TOY TRAIN!!!
It might seemed far fetched but this comes from the same local government body and crew of corrupt consultants who are attempting to spend nearly a quarter of a billion dollars with only a vote of less than 500 people.
Here's the word . . .
"The city just spent months widening Brookside Boulevard at 51st and Brookside, the planned turnaround for the streetcar. They're claiming it was for the Whole Foods Store but that's B.S. They widened the west side of the street and the grocery store is on the east side of Brookside. They already think the streetcar to UMKC is a done deal."
Community confirmation . . .
"We assumed it was widened to add a left turn lane on the southbound side. Yet they finished the widening, paved Brookside and striped the road. No turn lane. This whole thing could already be a done deal no matter if they have a vote by ballot or mail in . . . "
What's always sickening about this deal is that a cadre JoCo talkers and biz people are ready to burden KCMO with more taxes, construction blight and empty promises in order to push this scheme through while local streetcar advocates are only willing to preach to the choir and take softball interviews rather than engage in any real community debate . . . Just get mad at TKC in the comments and then read the blog throughout the day anyhoo . . .
We need coffee . . .
You decide . . .
One of these days you might learn TKC. It has been a done deal since day one and the votes of KC don't really matter that much. If the chamber wants something bad enough, they'll get it.
ReplyDeleteHey, countdown to the guy who spams a bunch of old news about TKC that only proves he's been reading the blog and hoping for the worst for about 5 years. Keep your fingers crossed! And keep sniffing. It stings but it's always great to wish for the best.
ReplyDeleteHalf a billion? that's a bit dramatic. Improving midtown is more than worth investment in a mode of transit that KC obviously loves.
ReplyDeleteObviously? Projecting, trolley boy?
ReplyDeleteKC = Corruption
ReplyDelete5:10; the price tag on streetcar phase II that was defeated in 2014 was over half a billion. The UMKC extension is a quarter billion.
ReplyDeleteIf we've got over a billion to spend gentrifying the river market, downtown, crossroads, and another half billion to throw at midtown just so that white folks feel comfortable taking public transit to the blighted Plaza, then we can pony up some cash to the east side where the kids are growing up in poverty and killing one another.
Until we can bring jobs and opportunity for private investment to the poorest part of town, the level of public resources being spentnin areas where most of the housing starts north of $200K is just tragic.
Trump will solve that problem, eh Stadler? Does he still have your precious vote?
DeleteBryan you idiot, throwing even $100 at the east side is a pure waste of money. It will solve nothing and improve nothing. The more money thrown at the east side, the more clowns like you think even more is needed. Every nice thing that has been built or done for the east side has been torn up or stolen by those who live there.
ReplyDeleteFor example 7:12a? I always hear these complaints by racists like you but some examples will be nice.
ReplyDeleteLinwood n prospect shopping center is one. That was new 25 years ago, now it's empty and torn to shreds
ReplyDeleteKeep posting the titty pics and reposting news links from other sites. In the meantime, the streetcar expansion is a done deal.
ReplyDeleteThe fix is in. The fix always is in if it's Killer City. You dumb saps.
ReplyDeleteLet's look at what the Trolley has done for Downtown. No jobs, no new merchants, block after block of empty storefronts; just an expensive tourist attraction.
ReplyDeleteThey don't want to put this so called sound investment to a true democratic vote. They know it will be crushed. Probably to death this time if all urban core citizens had a vote on it.
ReplyDeleteYou can be sure that the only way this mail in vote will succeed is if it's rigged-fixed.
^^^^Wow, so if it says it on this blog, it must be true here as well:

Yes the shovel ready jobs bubble at it's finest.
ReplyDeleteToot Toot! All aboard!
@7:32am
ReplyDeleteTake a close look at the Citadel "project" at 63rd and Prospect and particularly who was involved.
$24 million into thin air.
And, actually, the list that 7:56am refers to is very very long.
Have lunch at 18th and Vine and try to find $100 million.
Hey retards...read the details...a special taxing district will be created and THEY vote on the street car, not a general vote..fucking KCMO idiots..have no idea how to progress a city...
ReplyDeleteLet's try this: Inundate the 311 action center email with your protests or any anti street car or corruption thoughts. This way any comments are now recorded and can be referenced by sunshine laws. The city will have record of everything. Let's find out how much corruption is in the 311 center.
ReplyDeleteFREE TO RIDE! AND IT ALWAYS WILL BE!
ReplyDeleteFREE FREEE FREEEEEEEEEEE!
RIDING THAT TRAIN, HIGH ON SLYCAINE!
I heard the street widening was paid for by selling aborted baby parts, too!
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be the transportation of the future, where you will ride to your t-shirt shop job then back to your cubical apartment at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteEverything is Frosty! Despite the overwhelming mountain of economic evidence that suggests we're totally screwed.
No go get your internet connection. And follow us on Twitter for all the Frosty Mug Goodness KCMO has to offer.
My GOD we've never seen something this exciting in Coffeyville! It's the future right before our very eyes!!!
ReplyDeleteRecall Sly James!
ReplyDeleteCollect signatures at polls on election day, November 8th.
If WalMart held a sale on Streetcar bullshit filters, they might stand a chance of turning a Q3 profit.
ReplyDeleteContinue to sit on your fat peckerwood asses on election day and then bitch because you get exactly what you asked for.
ReplyDeleteDamn, this fucking blog is boring. Same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Jesus, don't you losers get tired of fucking losing?
ReplyDeleteAnd yet here you are every hour on the hour. Don't you ever get tired of fucking bitching?
ReplyDeleteWonder if Bryan "Malcolm X" Stalder, the self-declared voice of "POC"s, has noticed that his "streetcar is only for white ppl" lie is being disprov3n as quickly as all his other anti-transit propaganda. The fucking thing is full of people of all races. Maybe black people don't need a white colonizer pretending to speak for them, huh?
ReplyDelete10:03; how many POCs live near the streetcar line? Last time I checked, there is a very limited amount of affordable housing near the streetcar. Crossroads businesses, residents, and gallery owners were begging for a renewal of property tax abatement so that they aren't pushed out of their own neighborhoods.
DeleteHow many POCs have kids enrolled in KCPS and are impacted by the property tax abatement and/or TIF that is being rubber stamped as a way to claim that streetcar has driven development?
How many POCs who rely on bus transportation have seen their routes change because the depot at 10th & Main created too much traffic near the streetcar line?
Streetcar is public transit and will be used by members of the public, but the question is whether or not this project was created with POCs in mind and whether or not it is an appropriate use of public resources when POCs have more difficult issues being neglected in their neighborhoods, and the answer should be fairly obvious.
If streetcar had been created with the intention of erasing the Troost dividing line, I think my initial skepticism of it's value would have waned. As it stands, the verdict of national studies is pretty much unanimous that mixed traffic streetcar is the worst form of public transit because of the cost per mile, efficiency, and number of accidents
Poor Widdle Baby 10:01, did the grown-ups find your safe space again?
ReplyDelete9:29: Yes a special taxing district will be "created," and those who LIVE in the district will vote. Those who own property and who will pay for the toy choo choo will not get a say in the vote if they don't live in the district.
ReplyDeleteTaxation without representation, in other words.
9:42: (Trolley boy's second post) No problem if it's one of yours.
Trolley boy's on a tear today with his toot toot irrelevant and immature hoots. The pride of Coffeyville strikes again. And again. Watch out for those ruby slippers, everyone!
ReplyDelete^^^^Toot toot. Yet another irrelevant ad hominem attack. What a hoot. Click those widdle heels, trolley boy.
ReplyDeleteawwwwww speaking of butthurt how did this comment get deleted? pooooo wittle tonyyyyyy bayyyybeeee wee hurt hiz feewings
ReplyDelete-----------
They're claiming it was for the Whole Foods Store but that's B.S.
I wonder why Whole Foods paid for it then. Hey, you get those streetcar breakdown statistics together yet? We asked you for proof and you had all weekend.
Same deal here - when you can't really prove what you say, REAL people tend to ignore the whining baby in the high chair.
-----
ALL FUCKING TRUE.
so much for your free speech bullshit.
"Same deal here - when you can't really prove what you say, REAL people tend to ignore the whining baby in the high chair."
ReplyDeleteSo true. That's why you won't go for a real election even though you claim no one in Brookside has "EVAR" voted against a streetcar.
Problem is the groids will move into Brookside someday and then the money will be wasted...look at Waldo.
ReplyDeleteOf course Tony can't prove the "JoCo talkers and biz people are ready to burden KCMO with more taxes, construction blight and empty promises" bullshit. He's a fucking meth head and everybody knows it. They're extremely irresponsible.
Whole Foods did pay for the street improvements Tony. I guess that shoots down Stupor Dave's latest 2 a.m. hot flash.
ReplyDeleteJesus when will you learn?
Haha, the fucking buffoons at "SMARTKC/Cunts Fogies Retards and Grouches/Sherry's Fence" don't know what taxation without representation means. Fucking crackerjack team of lawyers you've got assembled there, you fucking idiots.
ReplyDeletelololololol @ the train is filled with people of all races! Unless its 1st Friday & they are being paid to shuck & jive on the train, you never EVER see minorities in any of the pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar may or may not be a success but lets not be ridiculous & act like its a diversity engine. Unless you are talking about bring white people from Independence & Overland Park together for a day on the train.
10:37: There's no place like home. There's no place like home.
ReplyDeleteTime for a recall on the Mayor and City Council. Need to put neighborhood leaders in office to stop the developer's and lawyers
ReplyDeletepayoff to the council
10:26 ....has got Tony down pat.
ReplyDelete10:26 ...is 11:37.
ReplyDeleteSo it's bankrupt the city by piggy-back off the working and poor for freeloading weekend maybe visitors JoCo Locals who take most of our jobs anyway because it costs too much for small businesses to start up here in the first place. Kind of redundant. Stupid. Greedy. After this city is broke, they'll be out of. Office, long gone, in another city stealing, and we'll have lots of expensive empty apartment buildings, high crime, no police, debt, poverty, no leadership, more murder, and just for a trolley that is already behind the times off the track? Somebody is making a whole lot of stupid money and I mean it literally too.so if they keep on saying this LIE it will make it true?
ReplyDeleteOH WILL THE HORRORS OF THIS NIGHTMARE OF PROGRESS NEVER END???
ReplyDeleteToot toot. All caps hoot. Clunk.
ReplyDeleteMake it a free ride for college students that will get the hell out of KC as soon as the graduate and won't come back. College. Catch a faster bust. Buy your Mercedes at your. New job out of state. After you pay back all those loans. Free is a college students middle name. We've been there. Grad school too.
ReplyDeleteAll those arts group on Main now. How convenient. That trolley will kick that school out. And it is one of the better schools. St Paul's . Parking will be hell and accident worthy. Buses for the handicap are readily available. The trolley is not realizable transport fort the disabled. I see lawsuits about that. So build the shit... Frozen heatstroke rained/ hailed on waiting for broken down 35 minute late trolley...difficult access to new bus route. Lawyers you're going to be richer. Build it. Just call this town lawsuit city. Rawhide.
ReplyDeleteStalder and a few others are making sense here. What I see are a lot of consultants and politicians trying to push the project when the public already said NO.
ReplyDeleteStalder is making sense, which is the reason trolley boy and his minions resort to ad hominum attacks rather than respond to issues Stalder raises.
ReplyDeleteIt probably worked in Coffeyville, but here, not so much.
10:36 your attempts to trash talk are so lame and just prove how ignorant you really are.
ReplyDeleteThere are no 2am posts here, nor are you making any points on anyone.
By the way, Super Dave Fucking Rocks!
So, do I understand that it would have been smarter use of public money to redo the area of Brookside where the proposed streetcar extension would go -- and which is part of the Whole Foods development -- in a way that assumes that a future streetcar expansion (that has already been approved by the voters in that part of town) will fail?
ReplyDeleteWithout regard to whether you do or do not want the streetcar expanded, how does it make sense to possibly do the roadwork TWICE? If it does not pass, there is room for a turn lane.
^^^^^Good point about the potential for a turn lane, but playing with facts about the vote. The toy choo choo failed 70-30. Perhaps it "passed" in Brookside, but if we use that logic, we'd be talking about Presidents Gore and Kerry, who also "won" in Brookside.
ReplyDeleteThe extension doesn't go to Brookside. It's just midtown to South Plaza. Brookside does not score well for federal funding because there is little redevelopment potential, unlike Main Street in midtown, which is a wasteland.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm a Brooksider, and like most of my neighbors I have voted yes on us about every light rail proposal put before us. The "save" the Trolley Trail people need to go read the sign in front of Axois that says the whole point of building the trail was to "save it' for a future rail transit corridor, just like it used to be when all those houses were built.
Most Brooksiders love the streetcar, and since most of us have the socio-economic means to travel to other cities and see real transit in action in nice cities all over, we're not really scared of streetcars the way Northlanders and eastsiders who never get out of KC are. I have seen many, many places with light rail and jogging trail right next to each other, and all the scare tactics don't really work on me or people who, like me, have seen a little bit of the world.
