TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! NORTHLAND KANSAS CITY COUNCIL LADY HEATHER HALL PROPOSES ONE YEAR STREETCAR REVIEW BEFORE EXPANSION!!!

Yesterday we noted that the Northland was opposed to the streetcar because of the constant fight over resources . . . While that's the case for many residents, the leadership of the Northand is far more nuanced and thoughtful regarding this issue . . .

Accordingly . . .

AT THE END OF THE BIZ SESSION COUNCIL LADY HEATHER HALL PUT FORWARD A PLAN TO REVIEW THE STREETCAR BEFORE EXPANSION!!!

Here's basically what she said . . .

Council Lady Hall: "I'm opposed to expansion before focusing on infrastructure. I want a 1-year usage review before proceeding with expansion research, vote by all KC residents on whether to expand, and discussion on what it truly costs to build, implement and maintain annually and from which fund sources. Finally, this is not a hit to all public transit, I think our bus system works . . ."

Her sentiments are among the first to call for streetcar checks and balances beyond all of the hype on Twitter.

Similarly, check this MUST READ column from Jason Withington that follows similar logic and offers insight into how Northlanders feel about the streetcar . . .

Fix it First, Expand It Second

The Northland perspective is mostly ignored by toy train cheerleaders despite the fact that communities across the bridge have long been the fastest growing in KCMO without the help of so many transit schemes . . .

  5. But what about what the creative class millenials have their hearts set on?
And what about the 24 million tourists and the entire population of France planning a trip to KC to ride the streetcar?
And all the great "art" that's been placed at the streetcar stops?
And the billions that are about to be invested along the route?
And most of all, what about the promises and commitments made to consultants and contractors that this gravy train will go on and on?
And, of course, as Councilwoman Hall correctly points out,
    WHAT ABOUT THE FACTS?

  6. Why do they need a year to put out facts that will be just as phony as that fucking Craig Glayzer.

  9. The Streetcar Authority is way over due for an independent audit to make sure they are being truthful and that taxpayer money is being spent wisely. These wild claims about ridership need to be debunked. It has been reported that Dave Johnson has leased three luxury units in the Power & Light Apartment building.

  10. Maybe Downtown and Midtown can start paying to fix their sewers instead of the Northland.

  11. We need a three-year review before expanding street car. What a difference three years can make.

  12. Fuck the street car. Good work Heather. Now Heather do us a favor and fire that piece of shit Troy Schulte and company (Pat, Sherri, Gary, etc)

  13. Why is the city not owning up to what this bucket of bolts is really costing?

  17. The trolley is a nice tourist attraction. The freeloaders from JoCo love it. Let’s have people pay to ride it.

  18. Run the train over the Heart of America bridge, along Burlington, up North Oak and ultimately to KCI. Then it will be a tourist/commuter train instead of an amusement ride.

  19. It will cost $60m to $80m to get across the river. No one has that money.
