TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! EXPECT TEMPERS TO FLARE DURING JACKSON COUNTY FIREWORKS SHOWDOWN TODAY OVER OUTCRY AGAINST CONTROVERSIAL ORDINANCE CHANGE!!!

Fireworks regulation is a big deal this Summer in the Kansas City area and today the topic of special consideration for a politically connected purveyor in unincorporated eastern Jack should prove explosive.
As always, we'll play to our strengths here on TKC and make it plain for everybody . . .
EXPECT JACKSON COUNTY OUTCRY OVER THE FIREWORKS ORDINANCE RULE CHANGE THAT COULD PUT A STAND CLOSER TO A PORN SHOP!!!
This is a big deal to a lot of people given the longstanding effort to make the County more family friendly.
Moreover . . .
THE CHARITY CREDENTIALS OF A FIREWORKS STAND ARE BEING CALLED INTO QUESTION AS THE COUNTY IS TRAGICALLY RELAXING THEIR ORDINANCE AND ALREADY EARNING QUESTIONABLE RESULTS!!!
Finally, we'll end with a bang . . .
THE CONTROVERSIAL FIREWORKS STAND THAT'S THE TARGET OF COMMUNITY OUTRAGE IS APPARENTLY BUILDING CLOSER TO A GAS STATION AS WELL ACCORDING TO COURTHOUSE INSIDERS!!!
We can drill down deeper on this one and hint that politics and lazy legislators are to blame for wanting to De-regulate safety measures that have served to keep the public safe for years.

Now we'll get into to more detail and show that some very smart people have been watching this issue . . .
Check this legislative round-up that offers a perspective on some denizens Jackson County Legislature ignoring their duty to keep the public safe and changing regs that help to do the same:
"On Monday, May 4th the Committee took testimony on the proposed revisions. Evidence and testimony presented at the hearing demonstrated that the proposed revisions would make Jackson County less safe. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Committee then voted unanimously to advance the measure to the full Legislature. The full Legislature passed the measure unanimously that same day.
"Except for the conclusory statement in the County’s web site posting that the measure was being introduced to enhance the “health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County” and to “make the County’s regulation . . . consistent with regulations adopted by the City of Independence,” the County provided no documentation or analysis as to what led the County to propose the change. Nor was any evidence provided by the County that the revisions met either of the stated purposes.
"Indeed, upon inquiry, every Legislator questioned admitted that no formal study or analysis had been performed, prior to the introduction of the proposed amendments.
"Moreover, the Chair of the Committee to which the ordinance was assigned stated that the initial notice he received regarding the changes was an e-mail over the weekend immediately preceding his Committee Hearing. That e-mail informed him of the proposed measure and that it was being introduced on Monday, May 4th, and that it had been assigned to his Committee. Other than this e-mail, the Chair of the Committee of jurisdiction was provided no formal information, analysis or study supporting the proposed changes. As did other Legislators, the Chair acknowledged that, to the best of his knowledge, no analysis or study had been performed. Other than the e-mail, the only other information he had received was a communication from Legislator Dan Tarwater, then the Chair of the Jackson County Legislator, that the matter was being assigned to his Committee and that Tarwater wanted his support and assistance in getting the measure passed.
"Regarding the contention that the proposed changes would conform the County’s regulations to those of the City of Independence, the Legislature was provided comprehensive information at public hearings and otherwise, in 2015 and again in 2016, that the changes did not, in fact, make the County’s regulations the same as those in place in Independence. In sum, the impact of the County’s changes was to make the affected areas of unincorporated Jackson County the LEAST fire safe in all of Jackson County."
Again, this Summer fireworks in the Greater KC area are going to be a big deal and THIS ISSUE is the start of the debate. We'll be mailing more info to some of our favorite newsies on this one for a bit of fireworks that starts TODAY at the courthouse.

Like the news blast.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly is the legislature doing by letting this thing pass through?
Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
If you think city council is bad, just look across the street to court house and you'll be amazed at some of the stuff like this that goes down.
ReplyDeleteFireworks & porn? WTF Danny. Thanks for dumping this turd into Frank White's lap.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how the forefathers survived back in the 1770's without the Jackson COunty Legislature. Being able to take a dump and wipe your ass without a permit must have been a really insecure feeling.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know why people care so much about these guys, as they have no real power. Nobody would ever notice if this level of government was eliminated.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess this needs to be voted down stop porn.
