TKC MUST READ!!! COMEDY CLUB KINGPIN CRAIG GLAZER PROPOSES NATIONWIDE PUBLICITY EFFORT FOR KANSAS CITY!!!

TKC NOTE: An important bit of advice on Kansas City's image and upward potential from the "King of Sting" and a local media power player . . .

Craig Glazer: Is Now The Time To Promote Kansas City Nationwide?

We have talked about this in the past. Kansas City is a great city, with much to do and see. However we are a little known quantity outside of this area. In other words, people who live in other cities that don't have family or friends in Kansas City know little about us. With all the 'new' things going on in our city is now the time to put on a full court press to get more people to visit, do conventions or even move to our area? It may well be now.

The Plaza is still one of the worlds most beautiful shopping districts and quite unique, yet hard to believe not well known enough. Westport has made a nice comeback and Power and Light is high energy on weekend nights. Our suburbs and upscale housing communities are eye popping. The homes up and down Ward Parkway, the new digs in North KC and Overland Park. Whats really exciting is our nice homes are low cost compared to bigger cities like LA, Chicago, Atlanta, and east coast. Homes here are far less expensive and quite nice. Same with our apartments and condos. Why not show it off to the nation with a blast of tv ads and a high end social media program to bring more attention to what Kansas City has to offer.

We just spent 150 million dollars on the trolley like it or not, why not promote this city to help it grow in the right way. If we can spend money there and now more money to be placed into 18th and Vine...why not allocate funds for promoting this city now. We need more residents. Look at 'the new downtown' its not growing much. Only 10,000 live there and its been about that for years now. Overland Park has grown huge but has much more room to expand as well. There is more to do out south than there are people today. Same with the northland.

This should be a project the Mayor of Kansas City can connect with Mayors and leaders in Kansas. Legends sure needs some help as do other Kansas areas. It can and should be a 'metro' project. Hey we just had a 'career' year with our sports teams, The Royals, Chiefs and Sporting KC are also in the mix.

When I travel and mention I am from Kansas City, most people just have no clue what our city is about. How large it is, what there is to do here, how nice it is in so many areas. Sure they have heard of the Chiefs and Royals but little else. Almost none of them have even heard of the Plaza! I hate to tell you this but many in bigger cities still think we are a large 'farm town' can you believe that. I was in LA recently talking about the comedy club and other entertainment KC has and the people asked me, "do the people who live on the farms come in on the weekend to go to all these events?" Oh brother. Most of what they see on the tube is our stadiums and the parking lot with people tail gating. Quick shots of the Plaza at best and mention our Bar-B-Q...that's about it. I think we can do better.

  1. Agree that we've got to move past all of the barbecue b.s., there should be more things happening and promoted about kc than just eating and drinking.

  3. Craig is right that the Visit KC efforts need to be more broadly based and not just "preaching to the choir" here in town. It's not enough to just convince people form JoCo to spend a few afternoons Downtown or go to the baseball game.

What Craig seems to be advocating is smart, "go big or go home." There are a lot of things about this city worth bragging about, rather than trying to convince ourselves, let's make our case to the whole nation. It's not a bad plan and some of it is already happening. Taking it to the next level would be beneficial.

  4. The problem here is people are seriously snooty, self centered, will take the shirt off your back and give you nothing in return, and most of all the other negative qualities that bells and whistles and shiny toys and buildings can't hide.

  5. Here's a better idea. Rename West of State Line KU Rock Chalk and K-State City, and East of the State Line Royals and Chiefs City.

That about sums up our main attractions in a nutshell.

  6. KC is the last thing people on the coasts or anywhere else on this planet think about. In fact most don't think about it at all unless your from there, or some crook doing business to rip off the taxpayers.

  7. Craig great idea but I don't think we have that much to show off compared to bigger towns. No ocean. No big nightlife. Housing and family lifestyle yes. Agreed. KC is a nice place to raise the children. Well not in KCMO.

  8. I think the best way to better Kansas City is to put drug dealers in jail longer and not give convicted felons unfettered access to my favorite blog to promote themselves.

  9. KC is no longer the relaxed, laid back, affordable, safe, and unique city it used to be that stood on it's own two feet not to long ago where people could actually do serious work, find good jobs, and raise a family.

    GONE

  10. a lot of things have went bye bye since 2008..it will never be the same for many of us

  11. The Plaza is basically destroyed of any uniqueness and soul it once had. Not it's just Big Shiny Buildings! Noise! Traffic! Sirens!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Uh, before tossing any more on brochures, billboards and other media, KC would do well take better care of what's been long neglected. How about repair crumbling roads and bridges-fix failed schools-dump the dollar houses-get fountains functional-TIF tightening for actual blighted areas-and more!

  13. im in Glaze, where shall we start promoting kc first ? SanFran, NYC , how about Montreal ?

    ReplyDelete
  14. So we follow the GM model - when no one wants to buy your cars because they suck you spend more on advertising instead of building better cars. Worked out real well for GM didn't it?

Kansas City is in decline because of crime and corruption among the business/political class. No amount of advertising will change that.

  15. As usual he is suggesting (talking) that someone else do what he thinks will be good for his business. Take your own money and go do what you think should be done rather than running your mouth.

  16. Certainly we are in good hands with the clueless minions at City Hall promoting the city.

  17. If you expect Glazer to spend his own money on one of his "GREAT" ideas you are crazy.

  18. I have lived in several metro areas over the years. I wont list all the things that are unappealing. I just don't think KC rates for shit with other cities it's size. It's glory days came and went a long time ago.

Now all I hear about from folks I know outside is shit about the mayor inviting gays, the crooked tax schemes, the crappy school system, the crime, what a joke the Plaza is, how boring the city is for it's size and how it just doesn't have enough to keep people interested for very long, the terrible condition of roads and how run down and dirty the city looks compared to just across the state line.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Glazer, you are borderline retarded. A first grader with a crayon could write a better article.

  20. Everything is just the worst!

  21. Does Craig live in KC? The program Divided City is the current PR program for KC seen throughout the world. Maybe Craig and the City should address those issues.

  22. RE: "CRAIG GLAZER PROPOSES NATIONWIDE PUBLICITY EFFORT FOR KANSAS CITY!!!"

    WHY?

While at first, this question may strike the reader as too simple or even confusing -- What do you mean "why?" -- after a few seconds of thought, it is of course The Question to ask.

Why would KC residents care to launch a nationwide publicity effort on behalf of their city? What would be the goal and motivation for doing this?

Craig Glazer has drunk from the same cup that serves up those promoting a downtown convention center hotel, the ToyTrain, and a new airport terminal. Build shiny new stuff, and brag to non-residents about how hip and up-to-date KC is, while ignoring the folks who already live here!!! This is the same DEFECTIVE THINKING that leads people to overextend their credit on wasteful unnecessary consumer purchases in an attempt to impress others.

The Sprint Center was built while the city still owed millions on Kemper Arena.

The Power and Light District was built and continues to remain open, only because the city subsidizes it to the tune of 8-12 million per year.

The so-called downtown living renaissance exists primarily due to the city lavishly subsidizing multiple developers projects.

Burns and McDonnell bribed city officials in order to have them build the company a new headquarters in SKC and lease it back to them.

Now the city is getting into the grocery store business, spending millions to purchase and renovate the Linwood Shopping Center.

Far too many KC residents (Glazer lives in KS anyway) wish they lived somewhere else, and have feelings of inadequacy, leading them to do stupid things like wanting to waste taxpayer money on foolish projects in an attempt to impress non-residents.

START TRYING TO IMPRESS RESIDENTS WITH THINGS LIKE GREAT STREETS, SIDEWALKS, BRIDGES, WATER/SEWER INFRASTRUCTURE, etc.

  23. we dont take kindly to to ks fuck knobs trying to tell us whats best for you, son.you hear me boy ? you hear me boy.

  24. No one has mentioned the Nelson, the Kauffman Performing Arts Center, the revival of the Crossroads district and River Market areas....granted, will never be San Francisco, etc.....especially stuck in the middle of the country, but who cares? Plenty to do, as long as you can handle just having Middle Eastern restaurants, for example, rather than Lebanese and Turkish, etc.....agreed on the infrastructure, though - time to start actually doing something to repair it....

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nope, 11:54, can't hear ya over that yuuuuge cheering and loud singing and endless clapping by those constant, massive crowds of convention visitors and hordes of streetcar riders along with that gigantic single terminal airport. Yep, we'll keep our traps shut, and drive to the good KC jobs then back to our decent homes in good school districts where the neighbors and nearby amenities are so enjoyable. That 1%, is a small inconvenience, though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @12:32pm makes some good points about great things to do and see, and you need to include professional sports, NASCAR, the many excellent theaters, and all the rest.
But those are all PRIVATE operations and are funded by fee, donations, memberships, and endowments and have NOTHING to do with KCMO city government.
What's missing ARE all the things residents, businesses, and visitors DO count on city government to provide, like safe neighborhoods, infrastructure, water and sewer services, common sense planning and zoning, and all the other basics that work to make a city attractive and desirable.
If you have something truly of value, you don't have to work so hard to sell it, and you sure as heck don't have to give it away like the KCMO electeds do with endless TIFs and other "development" incentives.
Sly's KC is mostly grandiose pronouncements and wild claims that are laughable.
    This way to the egress!

  30. Glazer got his ass handed to him over his last story over on KCC, and I mean Harley kicked his ass and beat him down bad. Wish Harley would kick his ass over this story.

It's like this ex-convict Glazer; you don't live or have business in Kansas City Mo, so just shut your damn piehole up. You bailed on KC when you flew out to the Dotte and then crawled back to Johnson County again with your tail tucked between your legs when the Legends made it clear, they didn't want you staying out there. So unless you're willing to cough up a lot of cash for your stupid pie in the sky fucking suggestions, I suggest to you that you shut the fuck up. Now, why don't you go all bully boy on me here and call me all kinds of names just because I pointed out what a nobody you are like that other guy did over at KCC.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kansas City is the unofficial capital of two states where most people don't ever want to be.

I like the cut of his jib!

  33. heres an idea-why dont we just be ourselves .fuck what other cities think.

start repairing our infrastructure and taking care of the real needs of a real city.

lets quit trying to be someone were not and work with what we have,

i think that would be a helluva lot more admirable than "look at us" "please look at us"

  34. One of Craig's best posts. He obviously knows what he's talked about because he has lived in the metro are all his life. I wish more so called "journalists" were as informed about the city.

A marketing campaign is not a bad idea but we need pros to work on it, not the same old staff from Visit KC.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ^^^^ You don't know what you're talking about fool. He hasn't lived here all his life. He was a convict, get it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Who you calling a fool, shit breath?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Glazer was born and raised in Kansas City. He did leave for college and other things, to Arizona and later entertainment industry in Los Angeles, but most of his life in KC area. We know the guy has run comedy since the 80's or 90's here. I think his take is a good one as well. We need to promote our city in its best light nationally, we just don't.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Glazer made that post, another of his fake posts on himself.
Other things? Like being a pussy and running as he left his partner to be killed. Other things, as in serving time in jail you mean? Other things such as running and selling drugs he ripped off of other drug running and selling assholes.
Yes, a real stand up guy, the kinda person, only a lowlife, wants to have as a friend. If the fool was to drive his Euro piece of trash car into a tree and kill himself tonight, by the news media he would be remembered mainly for his criminal record and nothing else.
