TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! RAGE AGAINST JACKSON COUNTY ASSESSMENT DEPT CONTINUES!!!

Welcome to the next 4 years at the Courthouse . . . Dead Tree Media is starstruck by a baseball legend running the county and it's open season at the courthouse with nobody watching the ball.

Jackson County Insiders offer this behind the scenes perspective on some continuing coverage amid widespread complaints . . .

"There are REAL issues and many have heard that there is "creative accounting" going on by the new administration . . . One of the major issues is that a consultant assessor is now getting over $30k per month (Yes, $360k per year) to "run the numbers." His contract now states that he, and he alone, is one who determines the assessment numbers. So what is the actual assessor's office getting paid to do? Get Frank's coffee (which I hear they do BTW)? That amount of money without any real accountability or oversight is a total scandal that the STAR will not cover given the love affair with Frank."

Inside baseball . . . Yes.

TKC FIRST: EXPECT MORE REPORTING ON THIS ONE GIVEN A GREAT DEAL OF TAXPAYER RAGE OVER RECENT ASSESSMENTS . . . WORD IS OUT AND PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE THEIR BILL ARE COMPLAINING FAR AND WIDE!!!

As usual, our blog community is the 1st to pick up this controversy but from what we're hearing the complaints are growing louder every day amid growing taxpayer frustration.

  1. Who's assessments? Downtown people who enjoy ever decreasing property values and lower tax bills just so they will stay there and hype downtown up or...

everyone who doesn't live downtown who's assessment keep going up and up and up... to pay for all the freeloaders in the Downtown Council TDD district?

  2. The FBI needs to investigate all the Downtown tax deals which would include River Market, Crossroads of course.

  3. Assessing property and collecting and distributing taxes is one of the few actual responsibilities left to county government and certainly the most important.
And the process in Jackson County has been a catastrophe and embarrassment for years.
Instead of paying any attention to this responsibility or running the county jail, or public safety, or much of anything else of actual importance to county residents, the electeds spend their time on insider deals, no-bid contracts, personal ambitions, and who knows what else.
It's like watching the antics of a middle school club.
    And all at public expense.
Any wonder why this region trails others in opportunity and success?

  4. What bullshit! Hire a cronie, who will over asses value, so you can blame him for robbing property owners. What a shit hole this neck of the woods has become simply because you can not find politicians who serve.

  5. Call me a broken record, but the only way we can change this culture of outright corruption is to support insurgent candidates in upcoming elections. Brice Stewart for sheriff is the only viable option we, as an informed public, have this August/November. He may not be the perfect candidate, but he is NOT bought and sold by the special interestss

  6. Kinda hard to blame Frank White. He's only been County Exec for a couple of months -- and that contract had to get approval of both the prior County Exec and the County Legislature.

  7. Phil, this is a new deal.

  8. What's really new is that John is getting360 all to himself. Before that 360 paid for some staff.
