SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY 1ST DEGREE ENDANGERMENT CHARGES AGAINST FATHER AFTER CHILD SHOT TO DEATH!!!

This follow-up to a tragic gunfire incident is important because of debate among the law enforcement community about how this death should count under Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) standards . . . Some cities don't list these kinds of deaths as homicides but KCPD has typically has counted these tragic incidents as part of local homicide data since there is no "justified" ruling from the courts . . . And now there are criminal charges.

According to court documents, "THE SUSPECT stated he normally keeps his handgun loaded, either under the pillow on his bed in the northwest bedroom or under the mattress of the same bed." He said the gun would have been in one of those two spots while he slept. He also told police there was marijuana in the home.

"People make mistakes. Accidents happen. I just don't want everybody thinking my cousin was just a lowlife, no good just because of one incident. It was major, but my cousin was good to his kids. He worked hard. A lot of people don't see it because of how he is, or what they perceived about my cousin," A RELATIVE said.

Block is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Sadly, the real response to the increased murder count isn't anything really new in terms of crime fighting but a very real political pressure to tighten up numbers as City Hall works to cutback police officers on local streets . . .

  1. Children's Mercy gives away gun locks for free for parents with guns in their home.

That's probably one of the most important part of this story.

  3. This is more than sad - it's tragic and completely preventable. I'm glad charges were filed against the person who was SUPPOSED to be caring for this child. I am sure we would all like to know exactly what happened as a not yet 2 year old in all likelihood did NOT shoot herself.

  6. The really good news is tax payers are going to save a fortune on food stamps, medical care, housing, educational benefits and more. I love America!

  7. That story doesn't make sense. Two year olds have a time holding a can of corn. Guns are heavy. The hammer depending on the gun is not that easy to trip . They can't hold scissors well. Who was in the house? Follow the money. Was their a debt owed? Something isn't right with that story.

  8. I wonder if the white woman who blew her biracial son's head off got the same charge? Same area. Same occurrence. Look it up, TKC. Give us an update.

  9. I'm surprised there's no felon in possession charge.

  12. Agree, the gun was too heavy for that baby. Dad hid the gun before he called out for help? No. Someone else was in that house if gunpowder residue wasn't on this bastard's hands. Hope he gets a lot ng sentence. Might want to check out mom too.
