Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Poster Prep

2.2 miles or streetcar track might not save Kansas City but this bit of artsy hype signals that the civic elite are hyping the grand opening of the small time commuter line with everything they've got.

And while the image is nice, locals watching the celebration or newsies reporting on it might want to notice that the most excited streetcar celebrants are also on the payroll of the project.

  2. Paying off people to be "excited" about the downtown renaissance is at the heart of Sly and the gang's frosty popularity.
It's too bad the money flow for the city is going to reverse for decades into the future.
These horrible posters will fade, the confetti from the celebration will be in the gutters, the band will be long gone, and the "enthusiasm" and hype over the streetcar will be gone in just a few months.
Then the attention of the electeds will move to some BIG NEW THING, operations will be ignored, maintenance will become unimportant, and the streetcar will become an embarrassment and a financial liability.
How's the new taxpayer-subsidized hotel coming?
Any more TIF projects from the "Port Authority"?
    It never changes.

  3. cool poster...cool street car...fuck all of you street car haters
for all of you un-educated..the street car is funded by a special taxing district..not the "taxpayers" of KCMO
    Hotel..its coming along...

    1. Tell that to PIAC! A small taxing district can't produce enough revenue to build that contraption or sustain it.

  4. I like the way they depicted the reality of the streetcar smashing it's way through Downtown.

  5. The streetcar has not yet proven to be either a boon or a bust. I have witnessed the traffic problems caused by streetcars on their trial runs. I have seen prices of products and services rise in businesses within the tax district so that they are no longer competitive with businesses outside the tax district. I'm betting on "bust."

  6. Then why did $100,000 come from the 1 and 2nd District's for the study to do streetcars from our PIAC money. Why not have the special taxing district pay for it?

  7. The train at Worlds of Fun is twice as long, not full of coons and you can actually park out there. So exactly what is this exercise about?

  8. No doubt Tourists from all over the world will come to KCMO just to see and witness first hand this technological marvel.

  9. The streetcar will never be as effective as a bus. Stupid people who are afraid to take a bus need the slower streetcar.

  10. Shitty looking poster. Junky. Messy.

Only a true urban futurist and transit guru who has been consuming Sly's Kool Aid for quite a long time could possibly make the comment that the streetcar is funded by a special TAXING district, and then conclude that it's not supported by the TAXPAYERS.
    Next up?
Unicorns are part of the downtown renaissance.
    This way to the egress!

  12. Yawn. Troll-y's Kvetching Cunts keep whining all workday. 4chan for suburban hillbillies from the Midwest. Sorry the world passed you by, man-children, guess change is hard for the stupid.

  13. Going "back" to trolley usage is futuristic
Why didn't you go " up" and use cable aerial wires above traffic
Having views above ground and uber tourist attraction, scenic views, that could go cross county?
Seen it on TedX and is do able. Like in Rio. That is more futuristic

  14. MORE shitty graphic design from Kansas City! Typical.

  15. The graffic is discombobulated. They have the performing arts center way too far from the Mainstreet Theater and those decorative posts are nowhere near the Western Auto Building. Somebody said lets just throw some shit together and see if it sticks.
