Filing for Jackson County elections recently ended and in the aftermath . . . Here are just a few tidbits worth a look . . .
Prosecutor Mean Jean Peters Baker and Exec Frank White: Unopposed
In an acknowledgement that just about every election in Kansas City is won before voters get involved. There wasn't much interest in making these two answer any questions or explain why they presided over a murder suspect on the loose . . .
Just a bit of a challenge for Sheriff Sharp
A politico who deserves a great deal more scrutiny but doesn't get any because Kansas City really doesn't want to delve into the topic . . . Another guy signed up to challenge Sheriff Sharp at the last minute but couldn't decide if he was a Republican or Democrat . . . In the end, I'm not sure if Doug Caster is competitive at all . . . And I'm certain it doesn't matter.
ANOTHER CHALLENGER AGAINST KANSAS CITY POLITICAL INSTITUTION DUTCH NEWMAN!!!
Now into her 90s like many other Jackson County committee members . . . Dutch Newman's latest challenger didn't want to stand on ceremony for this mostly ceremonial job.
Former Council Candidate Anne McGregor will be competing against Dutch Newman for the 5th Ward Committee woman spot
This won't be a popular move and might engender more Kansas City slap-fighting than one would expect.
Longtime Kansas City political institution Dutch Newman has a street named after her in Westport and she's exceptionally beloved by a great many people. For reasons that nobody completely understands but everyone still respects . . . Her blessing is STILL sought on just about every major political campaign launched in Kansas City.
For better or worse . . . An under-card contest could be the most hotly debate topic in Jackson County over the next few months.

Her heart may be in Westport but she has not lived in the ward for more than a year. That means Dutch Newman filed fraudulent papers to become a candidate for reelection. The house on Mercier is vacant.
Don't care about the details on a seat that has no power. Anne McGregor looks like a bitch to file against Dutch, it's just that simple.

ReplyDeleteFurthermore, She still slips up and says "darkies" from time to time. Dutch only has black or latino friends when she is hiring someone or trying to build an alliance for votes. She opposed Obama in 2008 because she hated the thought of a black family in the White House.
It may have been bad form for Anne to file against the old lady but Dutch Newman holds some bigoted viewpoints. We can do better.
If the stuff about her living in JoCo is true, then Dutch should just withdraw. There is no reason to bend the rules for her.
