TKC APRIL 5TH ELECTION MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY EARNINGS TAX OPPONENTS HOPE TO WIN WORKING PO'FOLK SUPPORT!!!

Quick glimpse at the latest bit of Kansas City political discourse regarding City Hall use of taxpayer cash.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY E-TAX OPPONENTS TARGET URBAN CORE WORKING POOR IN THEIR LATEST ADVERT!!!

Surprisingly, the last few blasts from Rex & crew seems to confirm that they're winning the mail game while Question 1 supporters have been hitting TV and the Internets hard.

Either way, the low voter turnout election isn't a yet a slam dunk as cuts against police, talk of higher taxes after the election and the limited influence of Mayor Sly in the urban core have given supporters a moment of pause.

The backside and e-tax opposition tagline . . .

  1. Earnings tax is just a symptom of the problem.

Glad it's up for a public vote. Maybe people in KC are tired of giving all their money to the streetcar.

    I guess not.

That's not a "smart city" is it?

  5. 10:00am According to David Johnson, he's lying to his supporters by suggesting that only the property owners along the street car line are paying for it. Of couse, they questioned nothing and fell for the hook. All you need in this town is preppy histers. They investigate nothing but claim to be beholden to high values. That's a lie, too. Don't trust hipsters. They are classist, elitists in their own retrograde way.

  6. The problem is most poor people do not think rationally about money. Therefore they fall for the - its only 1 per cent, its only 50 cents per day, its only $5 on a $100 loan, we will take your $400 tax prep fee out of your refund etc.

As long as it comes out of their paychecks they are content. Make them pay it at year end and you wouldn't collect half of it.

  11. This is the whole problem when the only protesters you have are bumbs. If any of them had a fucking job they'd be protesting this earnings tax bullshit.

  16. the only reason to vote for the e-tax is so they don't f--- us over and increase our taxes. Enough is enough. Get rid of Sly, Circo and all the other criminals.

  17. A person living in the eastside in a 75,000 home who makes 24,000 a year would be better off paying the 1% earnings tax.

Any loss in revenue would have to be made up by increased property tax levies and increases in city services like sewer and water.

A 24,000 a year person who rents would probably pay less with the earnings tax as their landlord is unlikely to raise rents across the board to pay for the tax and sewer, and if they do it may be one year in the future.

If people enjoy city services and no financial crisis they have to vote YES as it is about 1/3rd of the budget last time I checked.

Voting NO on earnings tax would likely stall a lot of TIF proposals as the property tax base couldn't be cut down to the bare bones without an earnings tax to back it up. So that may be something to consider.

It is also worth noting that the "NO" campaign is being financed by White monied interests in Saint Louis, not anyone from KC.

  18. I'm voting NO E-Tax. End the Slush Fund.

  19. All of the East side politicians have been paid by Troy and Sly to leas the East side voters to the polls to vote yes on the tax. They are true sell ours----all fir financial gain and personal family profit.

  20. Vote no on the E-Tax. The city just pisses the money away like pay increases for the fire dept, streetcar, etc. Trying to get a new airport approved to support trade unions that would be building the airport that we don't need
