When the gangs were Italian, it was because the Italians were considered second class citizens by the racist (they were even called niggers.)
When the gangs were Irish, it was because the Irish were considered second class citizens by the racists (at this time 'white' was not the issue, non-English was the issue.) This 'freedom' was extended so that people, like Chuck, can pretend that they are Traditional Americans when they're not even English.
When you end the war against the blacks in the big cities, the need for these gangs will no longer exist.
We pass prohibitive laws, because apparently we want to create 'black markets' (nice racist term, huh?). The gangs use these black markets (drugs, prostitution & gambling) for financing. Making something illegal doesn't make it go away, it only creates opportunities for entrepreneurs.

ReplyDeleteAnd what did the Italians and Irish eventually do? The vast majority within 2 0r 3 generations assimilated, got educated, and got a job. They also valued family, including the fathers! Ten generations later black people value none of this and are getting worse. Did the mob play the knock out game? Did the mob shoot a jogger or just people they had a personal problem with? Did the Irish and Italians ruin entire cities? No, they built them. The things that were illegal then are still illegal now yet everyone except black people have acknowledged that education and hard work are key to not living a life of crime. The offspring of all immigrants has taken a look at their plight and wanted to change it for the better. Only black people emulate failure they see as a culture. After all, they copy prison behavior. That's where the stupid baggy clothes look comes from. Keep making excuses Byron, other people don't act this way.
ReplyDeleteYou might recall that KC NoVa was supposed to be all about data-driven focus on gangs and all the press conferences early in 2015 trumpeted the great successes that approach had achieved.
ReplyDeleteThen reality set in and 2015 ended with 109 murders, pretty much the numbers that the city had suffered before anyone had even heard of NoVa.
Then suddenly the reason was domestic violence.
Then the excuse became Missouri state gun laws.
Now we're back to gangs.
Maybe some day the folks in charge will admit that the problem is behavior which gets worse every day and is endlessly excused.
When goons fire a rifle into a house and kill a three year-old, or two teenagers in Lee's Summit kill someone with a penknife, you have to ask what society really need to do to protect itself.
No excuses, serious policing, demanding personal responsibility and civil behavior, and immediate consequences would be a good start.
KCMO is already well on track for a record number of homicides in 2016, and that doesn't even include the dozens of victims who have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
All the streetcars, hotels, conventions, taxpayer-funded groceries, and all the rest can't come close to overcoming that terrible blot on the city's reputation.
