Rage Over Kansas Voting Crackdown Lawsuit

Smarter coverage over a local Kansas democracy debate now on its way to court in order to challenge the recent actions of SecState Krazy Kris Kobach who talks a great game but always has a way of losing these legal battles . . .

WaPo: Want to vote in this state? You have to have a passport or dig up a birth certificate.

Deets . . .

"Ralph Ortiz (13 year Air Force Vet) had gone to the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles to renew his license, and he registered to vote at the same time. Ortiz did not have documents that prove his citizenship, and no one asked him for any. Last fall, he received a letter saying his voter registration was “in suspense” because he had not shown proof of citizenship documents, a state requirement to register in Kansas. His name is off the rolls . . .

On Thursday, the American Civil Liberties Union sued Kansas, saying that thousands of Kansas residents such as Ortiz are “trapped in limbo” because of the requirement that Kansas residents who register to vote have to show documents, such as a birth certificate or a passport, proving they are citizens."

  1. So how do we know he is a citizen?

  2. Voter fraud is endemic. Kansas is looking hard at all voters and they should.

    Here in Mo.

  3. What we need are more Somalis voting dozens of times and throwing election like they did here in Mo.

  4. All you need is proof of citizenship. Show them your damn birth certificate.

  8. Zero sympathy for guys like Ortiz. The Secretary of State gave them plenty of notice to provide the proper documentation. Hell, they even allowed people to take a picture of the documentation and text it to their office.

Nice tear jerking story, with a uber-sympathetic "veteran" angle, but Ralph had plenty of opportunity to provide documentation.

  10. This smells like a setup. It admits that he didn't have proof of citizenship when he applied. Go to the DMV website it is literally the first thing they tell you to bring: proof of citizenship, proof of identity, proof of residency.

The question shouldn't be why was this man not allowed to vote, by why does this man who didn't prove his citizenship think he is allowed to vote?

And you can be any type of citizenship status to be in the Armed Forces. While giving anyone willing to fight for the USA for a certain years citizenship is a splendid idea we have not adopted it yet.
So until we do the fact that he is a Veteran isn't relevant to the issue here.

  11. Third world state is expensive to maintain. So many people in Wyandotte County holding public office make sure vote fraud stands. Decades of lying and cheating have been turned into an art form.

  12. I had to take my birth certificate here a few years ago in when I was renewing my Drivers License. Big deal so what. This Byron style bullshit by the American Civil Liberties Union to stand up for someone to lazy to follow the law. The ACLU makes it easy for the Byron types in the world to scam the government all the time and that is wrong.

  13. bring your goddamn birth certificate!! if you cant find it ,get a fuckin copy.a lot of us have had to do that.wtf is the problem.i dont see it.

  14. Yes byron, voting is a right, but it's also a responsibility that comes with citizenship that means we should expect that a citizen should prove who they are

  15. I'm a fucking veteran and I had to get a copy of my birth certificate to apply for a passport. what's the fucking damn problem? had fun going to turkey, Egypt, Israel, Italy, sicily after I got my damn passport. what's the fucking problem?

  16. Here is part of the problem.
Many minorities do know where they were born, to even begin to LOOK for their birth certificate. They don't know who their daddies/mammies are really are.
They might have to shell out a few bucks to get.
They would have to do some WORK to get the certificate and they are not about to do that. They want the government to track it down for them and deliver it to their hot little hands.
Getting your birth certificate is not a big problem, unless you are too lazy to get it.

  17. The U.S. Government would not have allowed this militaRY man to shop at the commissary, the PX, go to a movie or enter a military installation without an I.D. His whining, crying and bullshit then would have landed his ass in a heap of shit. If this veteran doesn't know he is going to need legal I.D. to function in society he must have gotten a mental discharge.

  18. Voting is NOT a right, Funkhouser. Felons, illegal aliens, and others cannot LEGALLY vote, although the Democrats try to sneak through as many as they can.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kansas is a right-wing shithole. That goes without saying.

Still, it does need to be said: Being a veteran is no proof that you are a U.S. citizen. Foreigners resident in the USA DO join the U.S. armed forces. Always have.

  20. NIGGER don't need to be voting anyhow.
