Advocacy in the aftermath of a controversial Kansas City police shooting continues and now takes the form of a widely circulated petition.
To wit . . .
FIRST ON TKC: CHECK OUT THIS PETITION CAMPAIGN ASKING MAYOR SLY TO REOPEN THE RYAN STOKES CASE AND APPOINT AN INDEPENDENT COMMISSION!!!
More than a year after the deadly police shooting, questions persist and now activists seem to be looking toward a legislative solution to answer their concerns.
Kansas City activist insiders tell us that, while the postcard petition isn't legally binding . . . It's part of a larger effort to confront politicos with widespread demand to reexamine the details of the case.
Here's a better look at the postcard document that has met with THOUSANDS of signatures in the Kansas City's urban core.
The text portion sponsored by activist group One Struggle KC . . . It should be noted that #BlackLivesMatter protesters are also a part of this effort . . .
Here's the statement . . .
"I, the undersigned, call for the swift action of Mayor Sylvester "Sly" James, to appoint an independent body to review the circumstances of Ryan Stokes' death and to reopen Ryan Stokes' homicide investigation."

One struggle and BLM should skip the middle man here, if they want to put Sly and council on the spot they need to get a real petition and not these post cards. This is my problem with the "movement" it's like they don't bother to learn how local government works before they go off on a tangent.

ReplyDeleteThere is also the question of a gun and a criminal record that these protesters are conveniently forgetting.
Nice effort, but Sly has a hotel and airport to build he doesn't care about anything but securing his legacy and making sure that all of his friends are taking care of, this kind of thing doesn't interest him because there's nothing to be gained from it politically.

A thug involved in a burglary with a gun, gets shot by a cop, saving who can imagine how much money and pain (Rapes, murders, assaults, thefts) in the future for us all. But, the "Racism Industry" grinds up another cop or another innocent in the name of another of "Obama's Sons".

Now, as usual, the African American community, politicians and the lickspittle media, sensing the opportunity to cash in, spews sewage out of the toilets in the middle of their faces and covers us all in bullshit and the smell of corruption and lies.
Next up, a "Rec Center" in the name of the great man, where young children can find a quick and easy path to the NBA while leaning about the evils of "Micro-Agressions" and "White Privilege" to the sound of Rap Music and gun fire.

They don't want an independent review. They want review by somebody who will agree with them regardless of the facts.

ReplyDeleteSeems like a bad case to hang your hat on. The guy had a gun, was running, and when cornered confronted the police (while still in possession of the gun). He also had a record that supports his actions that night.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to push the issue of police shootings and garner the support of the populace at large (outside of your activist community), pick a case that's not so open and shut (you know, one where the suspect wasn't caught during the commission of a crime, while armed). The "he was a scholar who was just bout to turn his life around" argument doesn't hold water.

I would venture a guess that your review of the case meant you read/watched the news. There are many justified shooting in this town, this one was not one of them.
DeleteAnd as the above commenter pointed out, he didn't not have a gun. A gun was in the car but not in his possession. The gun, nor the car it was in, was not his either.

ReplyDeleteEvery activist in the BLM "movement" needs their own pet case to decry in order to increase their "cred" within the movement. Perhaps the fact that the KC contingent chose this one, one in which the facts seem to be pretty straightforward and which survived the scrutiny of investigation, speaks to the "quality" of KC shootings. If this is the worst example they could find, perhaps the KCPD is doing things right in this regard.

Right or wrong - he was her child. And when you racist ass men lose your child to a drug overdose you'll understand the pain of losing a child. DeleteNeither the Mayor or the City Council control the KCPD. Send your petitions to the Governor of Missouri. He appoints the police board. KCPD is not controlled by the local government.

DeleteTV41 this week is promoting "Focus on Force" to air Thurs., 6:30pm and more than hints at KCPD under the microscope. Clips show 'takedowns' or forceful apprehensions, because you know, every PD prefers to bruise, scrape, sprain, tear, lacerate or otherwise risk harming themselves at every opportunity. Oh, yeah, the choir boys, turning lives around, on his way to work is NEVER resistant to arrest.
