On this first day of Kwanzaa there's a controversy raging within Kansas City Public Schools about the balance of power and equitable representation for community education.

KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WARN THAT FRUSTRATED PARENTS AND ACTIVISTS ARE CHALLENGING THE NEW MASTER PLAN AND THE SELECTION OF A NEW SUPERINTENDENT BEHIND THE SCENES!!!
In a cruel bit of rhetoric, the new scheme from the KCPS has now been tagged: The "Massa" Plan by some of the more strident critics.
Here's the word from an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER:
"The new plans for the African High School to go back to being Southeast and not a signature along with changing boundaries for all schools. Many parents are afraid of the school losing the African studies courses."
Accordingly, this is one of the most controversial topics confronting two potential candidates for the new Superintendent job at the beginning of next year.
It's clear that frustrations within the district are high and not just focused on Crossroads developers taking money away from the KCPS.
Accordingly, it seems that many parents believe African-Centered Curriculum is under attack and are NOW starting to mobilize in order to preserve this course of study was election season is soon to get underway for the KCPS.

At the very least, these parents deserve credit for getting involved. These parents want to fight for their students and that's commendable no matter what they believe.
ReplyDeleteThe worse parents and teachers are the ones who really don't care and just run through the motions, they are the reason this district has fared so bad over the years. Credit to ACE parents, they have been pushed around by the district but it doesn't seem like they are going to quit anytime soon.

ReplyDeleteExactly how does African studies prepare a student for college or life? How does that curriculum prepare a student for Statistics or Quantitative Decision Making? What percentage of these students graduate compared to other schools? Where are these students 5 or 10 years after school? Did they graduate college at a higher rate than other schools? Are they employed and earning more than people who went to other schools? If not, why do programs like this exist if they aren't benefitting the students? I have a feeling going to this school prepares one for life like getting a degree in Sanskrit does.

Want to teach African culture, let's just send them there to learn, first-hand, about those countries. We can start with Somalia and Nigeria. I am a white conservative police officer in kcmo. I have had the opportunity to experience both southeast high and middle schools as well as the ACE schools. It was like night and day. The standard kcps atmosphere was disrespectful and out of control. The ACE schools were very nice, orderly and respectful.

When is this fucking lame school district going to undertake the task of education. For 40 years KC school have been a total fucking mess and the accountability of the school board has been absolutely zero. As a tax payer I am fucking sick of being hi-jacked for these constant bullshit projects. This schema looks more like they are building Dude Ranches to bribe these little bastards to attend schools we already know half of them wont complete. The solution is simple. Require performance, hold parents accountable for parenting, make it a crime to miss more than three days of school without a doctors excuse and actually punish someone. Frankly, enough of my money has been wasted on this rolling coon show and the results are always the same while the dumb fucks of KC continue to shell out with little to no fanfare. It is waaaaaaay past time for this bullshit to cease.

Instead of providing free day care it is time for parents to either pay for these little bastards they keep turning out or zip their fucking britches.
I am a white suburban mother and grandmother, but I have been impressed with the quality of students at ACE. I have dealt with them in the robotics competitions, and I am always impressed with the participation of their parents in this program. I am not an education expert. I think that parental participation in a child's education is probably the most important factor in his/her success. I would like to see some statistics, which seem to be woefully inadequate in the KCMOSD. I think that people offering comments are asking the right questions. The problem is that the district is to incompetent that they have no idea what is going on. Too bad. The parents are doing their part. Why can't the district do theirs?
