The historic full moon is worth a look this evening.
This Christmas Eve it's likely somebody will get killed betwixt now and sunrise. This town is on pace to record a near record number of murders and the local political class are mostly putting the blame on gun rights, Republicans in the Missouri State General Assembly and/or any trend that will shift responsibility away from local elected officials. This constant PR refrain is only really effective in driving away people from voting booths and city limits.
In the meantime, what we've seen is that Kansas City residents don't care about the murder rate until one of their own falls victim to the carnage.
This year 106 people won't be celebrating the holiday season with their families. Some of those folks were criminals, some were innocent, a lot of the dead this year were children and two middle-class firefighters from the Northland are also counted among the fallen.
There's a lot to celebrate and quite a bit to regret this year but overall we hope locals take the chance to hold their loved ones close amid one of the most deadly years in recent Kansas City history.

ReplyDeleteThe origin of the problem was the Constitutional Convention, where the Founding Slave Owners refused to resolve the basic contradiction of these intellectual members of the Enlightenment espousing that all men are created equal except my slaves (in Jefferson's case, including the one that gave me several children who really are my property.)
ReplyDeleteEventually, people like Garrison & Douglas called them on this hypocrisy. But, by this point the evil slave owners had become so emotionally invested in their irrational belief system that they refused to see themselves as the committers of crimes against humanity that they really were.
They imagined themselves to be America's Aristocracy. After the slaves were freed, by force of arms, they came to hate the former slaves with a passion. This is basic psychology 101 people.
The path from then to now has been rather straight & predictable, even though the racist haters can't seem to understand why the objects of their hatred would hate them back.
Of course, throw in the insanity of the popular misreading of the Second Amendment, & you've got a low grade race war on your hands, as well as your basic class struggle.
The long term solution is to continue to fight against racism & this deliberate misreading of the Second Amendment (though I am encouraging my children to immigrate out of this evil country.)
