Every venue in town is pretty much subsidized by KCMO and the ones that aren't are really just bars hosting a piano player a few times a week.
The sad note for KC Jazz for 2015 is that it's a form of music that might not be economically viable within city limits any longer.

I don't think your summary reflects the article. Sure there has been a few closings, but some private businesses are doing well. I get that it's a tough market. Young people are staying home and old people are going to the casino. I applaud the owners that are keeping jazz as a part of their business plan.
ReplyDeleteA couple bars that occasionally have jazz are not the same thing as a "jazz scene." They do that much in Topeka.
