Grassroots Group Praises Work to Protect Missouri’s Environment

[Kansas City]: The Missouri Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Emanuel Cleaver for the 5th Congressional District in the 2016 election.

"We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Congressman Cleaver for re‑election," said Missouri Sierra Club Political Committee member Anne McGregor of Kansas City. "We are confident that he will continue to work to protect Missouri families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Missouri."


“We are deeply grateful to Congressman Cleaver for his service on the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, and for his advocacy for policies that promote clean energy technology, foster the development of renewable energy resources, and create green collar jobs,” said Winston Apple, Sierra Club Political Committee member and Independence resident.

“He has been an outspoken supporter of policies that protect our environment. While other politicians are attacking the Environmental Protection Agency, he continues to support and protect the vital work they do to ensure that we have clean water and clean air to breathe.”

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Cleaver's campaign.

"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Rep. Cleaver is re‑elected," said Anne McGregor. "Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his exemplary environmental record. We look forward to a victory for Congressman Cleaver on election night and to Cleaver fighting for the environment as our U.S. Representative."
