TKC QUESTION: IS AN EXTRAVAGANT KANSAS CITY HOMECOMING PARADE FOR THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR THAT DOESN'T YET WORK JUST A TAD TOO MUCH???

The Kansas City streetcar will be coming to town next week amid a great deal of fanfare and recent deets about a grand celebration planned around the arrival of the toy train raise an important question . . .

ISN'T IT OVERKILL FOR KANSAS CITY TO HOST A PARADE FOR A STREETCAR THAT DOESN'T WORK YET???

Celebrating victories and raising awareness is important but we're talking about police escorts, blocking off streets and somewhere in this presser I'm sure there's a line about ticker tape to mark the return of old school retro transit to Kansas City streets.

Check the celebration coming soon which just adds to the OVER-BUDGET KANSAS CITY TERROR TRAIN that not only has worked to destroy local Democracy but also was devised in such a way to make necessary fed funding a challenge to obtain in the future.

And remember, there are WEEKS AND MONTHS of testing a head, this parade is really just of a glimpse of a streetcar car that doesn't work yet . . .

The KC Streetcar is Coming Home

Kansas City welcomes Streetcar #801, more than 50 years after the last streetcar ride

WHAT: The arrival of Kansas City’s first streetcar, #801, from vehicle manufacturer CAF USA, Inc.
The new KC Streetcar vehicles, which are modern, sleek, climate-controlled and Wi-Fi enabled, are picking up the numbering where it left off more than 50 years ago with the 725-799 streetcar series. The new vehicles are known as the 801-804 series.

WHEN: Monday, November 2, 2015. Estimated arrival mid-morning. Information is subject to change. Follow up details will be posted on twitter (www.twitter.com/kcstreetcar).

WHO: CAF, along with Silk Road Transport, will deliver KC Streetcar vehicle #801 more than 1,000 miles from Elmira, N.Y. to Kansas City, Missouri. This is the first of four streetcar vehicles that CAF is manufacturing for Kansas City. Silk Road Transport is based in Arkport, New York, and specializes in transporting specialized cargo, specifically for the mass transit industry.

WHERE: The public and media are invited to watch the arrival of KC Streetcar #801. A safe viewing area will be set up within the northern half of the KC Area Transportation Authorities’ RideKC Park & Ride lot at 3rd and Grand. Additional parking is available in the Park & Ride lot, in surrounding City Market lots, and on side streets. There will be no parking along Grand Boulevard from 3rd Street to 2nd Street.

HOW: Traffic control will be provided by the Kansas City Police Department. Once on-site, the streetcar will be offloaded onto the tracks located along 2nd Street just east of Oak Street. The streetcar will then be attached to a tow truck and pulled into the Kite Singleton Vehicle Maintenance Facility located at 600 East 3rd Street . . .

As Kansas City prepares for the arrival of the first streetcar vehicle, the KC Streetcar Constructors are busy testing the track, facilities, power infrastructure and communication systems associated with the streetcar project. These stand alone tests are being performed now prior to the arrival of the streetcar vehicle. Once the first streetcar vehicle arrives, integrated testing can begin shortly thereafter.

The KC Streetcar is a modern, bi-directional streetcar vehicle, approximately 77 feet long, weighs 78,000 lbs., and has a maximum rider capacity of 150. It offers level boarding at all of its 16 stops, making it easier for bike riders, wheelchairs and strollers to board and disembark from the vehicle.

  3. I'm not a supporter of the street car, so take this with a grain of salt, but pouting, whining, and sniveling, as the project rolls forward is a great example of how not to get your way.

I am telling you, just like the 4th grade teacher deals with a difficult child, everyone I know is beyond your criticism. Most I know have already dismissed you.

Sorry, but you are an on-going example of how not to prevail in public policy.

Lay down on the tracks if the TOY TRAIN really bothers you. I don't think anyone will care, however.

    Toot, toot.

  5. Accounting fraud will be the only way city hall will be able to justify this thing even existing in three to five years.

As it is right now the Kansas City Streetcar Authority is already engaged in various forms of fraud, and deceiving the public in the process.

  6. Another bogus celebration that will be attended by nobody but City Hall employees, assorted shills, and trough-feeding contractors and potential contractors. Enjoy your swell taxpayer-funded food and booze, assholes.

  7. Why not screw up the businesses in the River Market even more than they have been for the last 2 years? Just drive even more customers and businesses away with blocking off streets and limiting already scarce parking. Great way to support the streetcar.

You have to come and see this. The overhead wires are live too!

  12. Funny thing, I see nothing in the press release about closed streets or police escorts (though it may have them for no other reason than any truck that size is required to have them) or any sort of parade, just one block of parking closed off and the invitation to see the thing unloaded and towed away.

Of course if they didn't announce the arrival Tony would be claiming they were keeping it a secret and break that news.

  13. Let's hope it gets dropped during the unloading process. Now I'd pay money to see that!

  14. Keep with it Tony.

I am sensing you are gaining traction.
