  1. RE: Lewis Diuguid: Suburbs still have appeal over big cities

Lewis DoBad opens his article with the following:
"Despite the hype about the rejuvenation of downtowns and urban pioneers restoring old inner-city homes, the suburbs appear to still win as the most satisfying places to live for most Americans."

So, does he naturally go forward and explain why a majority of Americans prefer suburban life, as would be expected from a coherent writer? Of course not! Mr. DoBad proceeds to largely ignore the suburban appeal, which was purported to be the basis for this article, and concentrates instead upon how Kansas City can do a better job correcting their many shortcomings.

Transitioning into full-cheerleader mode, like a KC Chamber of Commerce madam, Lewis manages to spin the highlight reel with mentions of the Sprint Center (broken promise of NBA/NHL team), the Power and Light District (multi-million dollar annual loser), the Crossroads (see current TIF tussle), the River Market (glorified farmers market), 18th and Vine (money pit), the Plaza (tarnished jewel), Westport (turning violent), and the Kauffman Center. It seems Mr. DoBad inadvertently provided a list of sites wherein KCMO government squandered millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars. Perhaps suburbs are preferred in part due to their much more efficient representative government and professional management...just a thought!

Ever the wayward optimist, next, Mr. DoBad actually thinks that the streetcar will bring empty-nester suburbanites into downtown to become residents. The nonsense continues with his mention of public schools and safety in KCMO versus the suburbs.

Hark dear reader! You didn't think DoBad could make it through a single article without turning racist did you? You are correct to have such suspicions, for Mr. DoBad implies that KCMO needs to make "people of color" feel more welcome. And "minorities face more racial profiling by police, while their children are disportionately subjected to harsh and unequal treatment in schools."

DAMN!!! Don't you just know working around this guy is a MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS!!! Always complaining! Always making excuses and enabling bad behavior in an attempt to explain why too many black residents can't succeed. Mr. DoBad closes with an appeal for a socialist state whereby funds, education, housing, transportation and entertainment are freely provided to those who choose not to work for such amenities.

Hey Lewis, does The Kansas City Star give away free subscriptions to all struggling urban core residents? And why not? Something to think about, before you open your mouth or write the next time.

  2. I liked his column, but the response from 8:23 was killer.

  3. People of color are NOT welcome ANYWHERE. What is so fucking hard for NIGGERS to understand?? You putrid animals should just vanish from the face of the earth instead of fouling the planet with your very existence.
