MUST READ!!! REDUX: REMEMBER MAYOR SLY SELLING KANSAS CITY CHARM TO WORLD SERIES CROWD!!!

Here's a bit of Sunday salesmanship and a brief trip down memory lane from Kansas City's top politico making his pitch for this city amid World Series hype . . . This one is from last year when charm wasn't enough to help the Royals get past a more competitive team.

This time around the locals are more experienced at making their presentations but the words, spirit, song and dance should be the same inasmuch as selling Kansas City means keeping quiet about local crime, bad schools, higher prices and voter apathy.

Take a look:

Mayor Sly Seyz: "Baseball has made us the darlings of America at this moment, but this is about more than baseball. This is about our City taking its place as a major league city in every sense of the word . . .

"I have to believe one reason the Kansas City Royals are so popular is because of their charm. Those guys are hardworking, friendly, classy, edgy, and fun . . .

"The same can be said about our City. I love being the Mayor of Kansas City because we don’t pretend to be something we are not. We are hardworking – not needy. We are friendly – not cold (although our winters would suggest otherwise). We are classy – not pompous. We are edgy – certainly not boring. And we are fun – as evidenced by our propensity to combine good music and good barbeque whenever possible (and people flocked here during prohibition, so what does that tell you?).

"Our charm isn’t limited to adjectives alone. There are few metropolitan areas in the nation where you can choose to live in a downtown loft or a sprawling farm and still not leave the city limits. You can do that here. Plus, our vibrant neighborhoods make residents and visitors alike feel as if they live in a small town, although our population is over 450,000.

"Above all, we are real . . .

"Being real resonates. It’s charming. And it’s Kansas City."

  1. part of the mayor's job is to sell kc. I don't fault him for showing the world all we have to offer, even if the part about the lower rents isn't true any more.

  2. agree, 332. if he did anything less than act as a cheer leader for kc, he would be criticized.

pundits (those that get PAID for their opinions, Tony) say this should be a good series.

    Hope they are right.

  5. He loves this B S, because it distracts people from his fails: KCI, hotel initiative, strretcar, crime etc, etc, etc!

I prefer my cheerleaders with long legs and short skirts!!!

  7. RE: "I love being the Mayor of Kansas City because we don’t pretend to be something we are not." --- Sly James

EXCUSE ME!!!!!! Mayor James, the people of Kansas City are generally good and decent folks, but too many of our political representatives (like you) are unadulterated blathering impostors.

You don't think you're pretending to be something that you're not? Why, this very article which you've penned is a fictitious delusionary vision of grandeur. Kansas City is not "a major league city in every sense of the word." And Kansas City residents are ok with that, as they'd choose to live elsewhere if they wanted the NYC, LA, Chicago, Miami, SanFran lifestyle. This simple concept is what you've repeatedly failed to comprehend!!

You, along with Council lackeys, and wannabe movers and shakers, take your out-of-town junkets and return to KC eager to do what? You're intent on CHANGE!! You proclaim KC needs a ToyTrain, a new airport, a new convention center hotel, because we MUST keep up with the Joneses! WHY? Residents say they DO NOT want taxes to go toward a ToyTrain, a new airport, a new convention center hotel. Are you DEAF? BLIND? DUMB? All of the above?

It's ALL ABOUT YOUR EGO. YOU want a ToyTrain, an airport, a convention center hotel, so that you can show it off and brag to your political contemporaries when they come to KC every 5-10 years for a meeting. You're so INSECURE and NEEDY that you'll waste millions/billions of dollars in attempts to impress non-residents.

    You are a SOCIOPATH.

  8. So if the Royals win will Sly all of a sudden be standing in the locker room in a Royal team shirt grinning like the idiot he is in front of the camera?

  9. Sly is stealing with both hands of course he wants to continue so saying nice things help

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sly stole our hearts and then our money.

  11. Sly is a piece of shit

  12. If Royals win thank God they won't let SuperKnave in to foul up the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would bet before the end of the 2014 season Sly could not name 5 players on the Royals roster.

  14. Get your fat face off TV and internet!!! Pay attention to the crime wave that is devastating Mid-Town KC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. The only problem is the folks the mayor is addressing are not deaf, dumb or blind. They also have a sense of smell. KC looses and when folks leave this town after a world series game they are going to thin New York is the land of Oz in comparison.
