Here's the real story behind the recent crime wave that has a lot to do with loitering about a controversial location:
"My neighbor and I had our cars broken into last night (my case number ##############). Our cars were not on the street and I have paid a lot of money to light up my backyard but they didn’t care. The crazy part is our cars were locked! No force entry at all. They must have some new device to bypass the digital alarms or something. I might have video of it from my cameras but still checking. I believe this is like the 5 break in (houses included) in 2 weeks and most are right on my street Harrison Blvd which boarders Troost. Not sure if you noticed, but after the shooting at the end of my street a few months ago the park became private but now the people from Bainbridge just hang out on the sidewalks and there is always a security guard out front. This is ridiculous and tearing our neighbor a part because now it is breeding hate on the divide between Hyde Park residents and anyone on Troost or east of it."

ReplyDeleteHeard about this one but I thank you for more details. The car break ins have been almost constant for two years. I don't know how to feel about thieves using new technology that avoids breaking windows. It used to be that every morning we'd wake to broken windows up and down the block, I guess this is better but it doesn't feel that way.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that we need to be safer, learn to call the police more often and not let criminals have the benefit of the doubt. Also, there needs to be something done about bainbridge NOW before someone gets hurt.

ReplyDeleteEvery neighborhood in KC where people have nice stuff is just a short walk from some other neighborhood where people prefer to steal nice stufft. You have to be delusional to live in KC (unless you're into stealing stuff and getting away with it, in which case it's a pretty nice town). You can always buy another car or TV, but a lot of the people who steal would just as soon kill you. Happens all the time.
Decent people choose to live one block from Troost and are surprised that they are victimized?

Every generation "discovers" Hyde Park and most of every generation moves to the burbs in a few years. This has been happening since the 70s, nothing much changes.

I would suggest moving. I'm sorry but this area has been in serious decay and crime ridden for the last 30-40 years. My advise would be to move out it isn't going to get any better I'm afraid.

11:39 As I understand the Missouri extension of the castle doctrine you can shoot some ass stealing your car. There is nothing that says you have to be in your car. I'd welcome a more informed opinion, but the law also extends to campers, mobile homes, even tents. If you are walking up to any of these and discover circumstances that provide a reasonable threat to life or create fear for your life or of serious harm it seems to be the bastard is bought and paid for. Nothing requires you to avoid these crooks. Unless I am totally wrong not being required to retreat is a principal element in the Castle statute. If I am wrong i guess I;ll be going to jail 'cause no somebitch is gonna come on to my property and put his dick skinners on my car.

Unfortunately, Jackson County's bitch of a prosecutor will prosecute you for defending your property and let the thieves go. ReplyDeleteThe park was church owned property, but there is an organized effort to move poorer families out if their homes by raising their property taxes through a residential CID . They are trying to create a mandatory membership in a homes association.

Hyde Park is about as white as Manor Bread. Becoming very affluent and very racist.
HPNA is try to close all the black businesses at Armour and Troost and use eminent domain to build MAC owned Apts and store fronts.
