Mary Sanchez Stands Up For Firefighters

Credit where it's due, this is kind of a decent column that not only confirms previous TKC reporting but also offers a nice departure from her usual Democratic Party talking points: We should be angry: Firefighters risk all to save lives, not to fall victim to crime

  1. It is not considered on of the most dangerous occupations in America. But honesty has never been at the top of the Star's list of qualities.

  2. Mary must not think Asians are victims of white privilege, or else she would be blaming whitey for the circumstances that led a poor black child to set the fire.

  3. Enough. Anyone still trotting out a column or continuing to pay daily public homage to these guys is looking for an angle or clicks.

Respect the dead; quit using them for your own selfish purposes.

  4. Sanchez, when was the last time you honored a truckload of dead veterans, or civilians for that matter. Fuck you - snarky bitch!

  5. Mary Sanchez, the government-paid propaganda agent masquerading as a journalist, will periodically take a day off from spreading the national talking points originating from the Democratic National Committee. Left on her own, she's typically clueless as to what an exemplary journalist actually does to inform the citizenry.

Failing to conjure an original story idea, Sanchez settles upon her tried and true practice of "late to the story reactionary hectoring." She writes:
"We should be angry: Firefighters risk all to save lives, not to fall victim to crime"

Well, thank you Mary Sanchez for lecturing me on how I should feel about something. I suppose the poor woman can't help herself really, after volunteering to serve as a political mouthpiece....a dummy sitting passively upon the ventriloquist's lap....with neither a heart nor brain.

Now, on the matter of public safety officers, and firefighters in this case, let's be crystal clear, I am a stalwart supporter of the men and women who serve to make our community a safer place. Likewise, I believe the vast majority of fellow residents would be in agreement with me on this matter. So why does Mary Sanchez think it necessary to rehash statistics that we're all familiar with? Well, it's because she's not trying to inform the reader with new information, but to score personal points on an issue that's already been settled. Is anyone going to argue against the senseless death of two firefighters, claiming it was due to their own negligence? That would be preposterous! And that is exactly why Mary Sanchez wrote her words....she wants to join the consensus, after the issue has already been settled.

And this brings us to the heart of the sad Sanchez Syndrome. In Mary Sanchez, we have a child/woman who desperately wants to join the group, having tired of her isolation. Where once she may have dared to offer original opinions and a questioning response to the prevailing group-think, now she is content to follow in the well-worn trench of conventional monotony. She may say that in a time of newspaper decline and staff layoffs, the best defensive posture is to ride piggyback upon those currently in power, but that is a strategy for those without a spine or self-respect. One wonders if she's taken down all the mirrors in her home.

If...oh, only if....Ms. Sanchez had written about KCMO firefighters BEFORE this recent tragedy, then that would have been original and inspiring. Perhaps she could have followed in the footsteps of a random firefighter for a few days, and then reported to readers about the transition from humdrum routine to life-saving tactics following the clang of a bell. Or, what is it like to graduate from the police academy and begin a career as a patrol officer in KC? The informative, fascinating stories are endless in number....but we'll never hear them from Mary Sanchez because she chooses not to lead, but to follow.

  6. "Mary Sanchez, the government-paid propaganda agent masquerading as a journalist."

    There he goes again ...

Can you prove this? Hearing it from your voices doesn't count.

    See a therapist.

  7. I couldn't agree more, 12:05. What kind of screwed up government would pay her for such crap? She is a DNC shill for the sheer fun of it. I also do not think she's masquerading as a journalist. Her disguise is not remotely convincing.

  8. OK, we all agree that arson is bad, and that firefighters deserve our respect (except when The Star complains that they are overpaid, that is.) BUT...

When you read the Probable Cause Statement in this case, you are absolutely convinced that there is a LOT of evidence that this woman is guilty of ...running a nail salon. And, maybe she is clumsy with the flammable materials that are ALWAYS present in nail salons.

Not much else, except for "expert" opinions by the ATF. Pardon me, but since we are in the middle of a raging scandal in which thousands of cases are being reviewed for false convictions because of FAULTY FBI expert testimony on hair (oh, and bite marks) I am a bit skeptical of VooDoo experts..

Problem is that just as the guy with only a hammer sees everything as a nail, law enforcement experts seldom come back with a "beats me" opinion. Especially in high-profile cases, where there is pressure to provide a response other than, "I guess we'll never know". Even though a terrible fire really does leave little actual evidence.

Not long ago, Texas executed a guy for a killing that -- 12 years after the fire -- every scientist agreed was not actually arson. The local fire marshal had said it was. He was the Texas "expert".

But it is great publicity -- and that is what often drives federal law enforcement. Remember, they are content to let 6-8 guys rot in prison over the blast that killed 6 firefighters -- guys who had no more to do with it than J. Edgar Hoover did -- rather than admit that they screwed up.
