Kansas City Media Moves

A lot of strange moves are happening behind the scenes. 41 lost their deuce after a few months. did they cut him???

Email on 4/30:

"We are excited to say we have hired an Assistant News Director. Mike Curtis will be moving here from Memphis, TN where he was the Assistant ND at WHBQ. He has a strong digital focus and has a proven record of creating innovative and compelling content. He has been a newsroom leader for decades. He has also worked in Philadelphia at WCAU and the PBS station in New Jersey to name just a few spots in his 30 year career. He has a passion to win and we think he’ll be a great addition to our team. His first day will be May 27th."

Now:

"Mike Curtis has resigned effective immediately to pursue other opportunities"

Over at KCTV

Brett Akagi is heading to 5 He has worked at WDAF, KSHB, KU seems to HAVE BAD LUCK every where he goes.
There will now be two chief photogs at that station, imagine that.

KMBC now has two news directors.

  2. We need more busty, empty headed bimbos to broadcast the news. FOX has the right idea.

  3. The too, too cute husband and wife team at Channel 41 combined with Gary's weather drama has driven me to Channel 5.

    1. This duo on the newsdesk has something odd to it. 41 may be tossing in a hint of sexual tensions with hubby and wifey newsies side by side It is odd for high visibility roles, especially since most employers avoid close proximity assignments as much as prohibiting direct supervision over relatives.
I see this as a ploy for more female viewers and even 'hetero' proponents. Ladies look for examples of the perfect partner, and dudes with good jobs you can keep close watch on is the goal. Well, a fantasy for most.
So, it's cunning for the networks to try to project that indeed there are media pros who are not LGBTQWERTYXYZ!!!!
Watch, one or both will be 'out' soon....naw.

  4. McNamara was the smartest broadcast journalist hire in two decades in this town. It is a shame she is working for a bunch of fucking local hacks who couldn't put a professional presentation together if their lives depended on it. KC broadcasting needs to call recruiters who can pull talent from markets like D.C., Baltimore, Buffalo or anywhere they pack the hell into a 30 minute newscast and expect their bimbos to be able to read and deliver faster than a freaking snail. KC has been the 6PM snooze and screw the pooch market for too damn long.

  5. We need a newsbunny that has some real pert titties, the kind where the nipples are almost pointed upwards.

  6. They need to dump bat-boy Lezak and fill the place with hunky stud men that I can fap to when I am eating my Kix and drinking Boulevard Wheat.

  7. Fuck local media. This is why Tony needs to do actual reporting rather than just aggregating news.

I recently applied for an assignment editor position at Fox 4 (which is just another name for news hunter). I get a call back from the news director and was asked to come down to the station for an interview. Awesome.

The interview felt like a job shadow where I had to sit in a morning meeting, hearing the reporters and producers pitch stories for the night newscasts. I even pitched a story in order to make me stand out from the other candidates. Apparently it worked and I was subsequently asked to visit the station again to sit in the assignment desk for an entire shift the following week.

The second job shadow was pointless. One would think I landed the job by sitting in the assignment desk for eight hours. The editor didn't train me per se. I guess it was some kind of evaluation to see if I was fit for the job. I took the initiative by asking how things are done at the station and so forth by listening to scanners, offering to answer calls and emails, etc. I demonstrated that I really wanted the gig, along with being friendly and sociable, of course.

The news director said she'll call back in a couple days. Three weeks later as of today and not a word. I even thanked them for the opportunity; being polite and shit. By the second week, I was pissed and e-mailed the general manager to detail my interview experience. I didn't even receive a response from them, either.

So, for ten hours of "training," I didn't receive a bit of compensation or notification whether I was offered the job. Fox 4 was totally unprofessional. In fact, media types are all competitive too. I guess the assignment editor veterans felt threatened that a new guy could take over their job, so they made up some bullshit during my sit-in or the director simply didn't like me for whatever reason. Or hell, I am a white guy. Maybe they needed a minority or female, regardless of skill or experience, to meet a quota for a tax break.

Long story short: It doesn't matter if you have the acumen, experience or background, are friendly and a team player and demonstrate that you'll be 100 percent committed to the job. You will not get correspondence from a prospective employer if they do not like you for whatever reason.

Fuck it. I'll write my own shit. What a waste of time.

  8. I'm with 10:06am.
All that's missing is some pageant walking and a few more giggly local interest stories and the Channel 41 "newscast" will rival the best of Saturday Night Live or offerings on Comedy Central.
And now back to the latest doggy rescue and overturned semi on I-70!

  10. That husband on KSHB has a fucking double that is featured on one of the 300 gay porn sites in which I express a scientific interest.
Come to think of it, maybe it isn't a double.

  12. 10;44 agree with you totally. McNamara was a great hire. It is a shame she is paired with Brad "Lurch" Stevens. He is horrid. Like watching paint dry.
