In the aftermath of a tense election wherein Clay Chastain attacked the tax record and election status of Mayor Sly James, the transit longtime Kansas City activist continues to tout his vision for local transit.

To wit . . .

TODAY CLAY CHASTAIN REVEALS HIS VISION FOR KANSAS CITY'S LIGHT RAIL FUTURE AND HIS LATEST BALLOT INITIATIVE LANGUAGE!!!

For extra transit fun . . . Remember that Clay only needs a few thousand signatures to earn the right to try and get this on the ballot and he has proven adept at securing voter approval . . . To this day, despite a great deal of criticism from media elite, he's the last guy to get a citywide rail initiative passed.

Accordingly . . .

Take a look at Clay's big plans and the upcoming effort to bring another Kansas City public vote on light rail . . . At least until the Citizen Initiative Petition Process is changed by Mayor and Council . . .

Clay Chastain: Ballot language for 2015 transit initiative petition

Let's make Kansas City great again by revitalizing it around a great public transportation system. .

The City's 2.2 mile downtown "Toy Train" (a streetcar line foisted upon the people by insiders via a small restricted election) will not do.

So, coming soon to grocery stores near you Plan B designed to jolt Kansas City out of the doldrums and into stardom as a more green, prosperous, and transit-oriented city. (See attachment for transit petition's ballot language).

Also, (see attachment for Plan B's projected revenue stream and estimated capital construction costs).

  1. TKC, here's the more important question: How much do you want to bet that Sly & Co will use this when they try to change the charter?

So their vision for KC is essentially a 1988 Disneyland?

    What an utter clown show.

  3. He did not even make the primary. It's obvious that KC does not want what Clay is selling.

  4. Well Gondolas are at least a step up from streetcars.

    ReplyDelete
  5. If you use the words "transit" and "disruptive" in a proposal, it must be cutting-edge and worthy of consideration.
KCMO still has a few more dollars left in its bonding authority, so go for it!
    The taxpayer-funded carnival continues.

  6. No mention of extending the streetcar down Main to the Plaza and beyond.
This will throw a wrench in toy train supporters expansion plans.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Gondolas and a ferris wheel make the streetcar seem imminently practical.

  8. I have a lot of disagreements with Clay but I'll say this for him, he's persistent and his light rail plans aren't any more crazy than councilman Russ Johnson thinking that a small streetcar line would save downtown.

    Think about it.

  9. Clay just doesn't go away does he. That one pic is a pipe dream of the street car we need a 100 million dollar bond just to create that image.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Gondolas are a brilliant idea. Then the black marksmen can shoot "skeet".

Great idea. Killa City ingenuity at it's best. And who said this shit hole was a shit hole ?

  11. If you're gonna have people with jobs moving back into a densely-populated urban center, they will need to have a more suitable way to get around than everyone driving everywhere. If you provide something decent, people will use it. It's time to be a little creative (if not Gondola creative). Disney did, at least, have some imaginative ideas about "people-moving".

Aerial Gonads!!! I am all in!!!

  15. hey gondolas are a better idea than those kiosks that I will never use but KC is paying 1.3 million for.

  16. Downtown KCMO is NOT a densely populated urban center and most likely never will be.
Most of the metro population doesn't live in KCMO, much less downtown, and visits only on special occasions like Big 12 games, First Fridays, concerts, and festivals. And if they can't conveniently park their cars they won't be showing up.
KC is a big city only if you're from some rural mid-west farm town.
It's like Lezack's "Friday Night in the Big Town".
    Bush league.

  17. KC is a big city only if you're from some rural mid-west farm town.

Rural rubes Johnson and Staubio fit that description perfectly.

  18. I've seen worse than this plan. The other streetcar extension that passed by the plaza in favor of brookside also didn't make any sense.

But I think if Clay wants to pass this then he should move here.

    ReplyDelete
  19. There is no metro in America where most of the population lives in the core city, much less downtown. Jesus, use your googler from time to time. Fucking rube.

    ReplyDelete
  20. How deep in his ass did Clay have to go to get those cost/revenue numbers?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Someone needs to take a swing at his ass. And when he wakes up point him eastward down I-70 out of town.

    Go Home Clay!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Clay is seriously fucked in the head. Like SERIOUSLY fucked.

  23. Rural rubes Johnson and Staubio, he he, clunk clunk, clank clank. Choo Choo.
