TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SHORT HISTORY OF RACISM IN KANSAS CITY FREE TODAY ON KINDLE!!!

For this Saturday and our blog community of scholars and intellectuals, we've got important news on one of the most important conflicts impacting Kansas City.

To wit . . .

FIRST NEWS ON TKC . . . AN EPIC BOOK ON RACISM IN KANSAS CITY IS AVAILABLE FREE ON KINDLE!!!

The author was kind enough to send us this note . . .

"Racism in Kansas City is now on Kindle, and today it's free!!!"

Former Councilman and community leader Alvin Brooks provides the forward for this important Kansas City research.

An important passage from the preamble . . .

Mr. Brooks: "Kansas Citians, like so many others across the nation, wonder, “Could it happen here?” The answer lies in this study of Kansas City’s darkest moments—slavery, the border war, the Civil War, bombings of black homes, lynchings, the segregation of neighborhoods and schools, the civil rights struggle, the Black Panther movement, the 1968 race riot, assassinations in the 1970s, the infamous Missouri v. Jenkins U.S. Supreme Court case, and the racial inequities that still plague Kansas City today. Threaded throughout Racism in Kansas City are stories of those who fought ardently against racist policies—and sometimes won.

"Racism in Kansas City, in the end, offers readers a hopeful message: with awareness comes understanding and then change."

The release of the print version of the book from author C.S. Griffin is slated for Oct. 14th but only here on TKC can we have a discussion of the work FIRST and FREELY.

  1. I like a lot of what Mr. Brooks has to say. But the man has given his life to this fight in kc. Don't we have any new people to lead the charge? That's what I want to know. What is the future of this conversation. It's good to remember the past but we must also look forward.

    1. What exactly has he done, 10:09? Any results? With the murder rate pretty much the same year after year without end. I'm hard pressed to find anything he's done except verbally condemn the incidence of crime. Holding prayer vigils is not a qualitative, substantive or meaningful solution to crime. The fact that his likeness is splattered all over the television and he has strong political connections does not in any way effect crime. So, what is it you like about him? I know him to be a coward, two-faced and a liar.

  2. Yes I'm sure this is going to attract a big audience here.

    LOL

  3. I read it and have a preorder so I can give it to a friend for Christmas. It's a great book and I think this is the perfect place for it since there are so many racists who read this page. Maybe they can educated themselves and change their ways.

  4. Agree with the first comment, we need new leadership in Kansas City.

  5. I will read the book. However, I hope it isn't the usual line of how we have to make more accommodations for black people. Racism and discrimination have effected virtually every ethnic group that has come to this country though every other group has deflected it and moved onward and upward.

  6. I hope Hyde Park is part of the story, since it would not allow blacks to buy a house.
Even today the Hyde Park Neighborhood association targets blavk homes on a regular basis through codes.
Their neighborhood face book page proudly targets black city employees just doing their job.
2015 there are no blacks on the board of the Association. Racism still exist

  7. When I didn't like KC I left. Too bad the 30 percent of KC citizens who whine about a city they are running can't do the same.

  8. KC has a long history of racism, I'm glad this book is being published and hope it helps to create a real dialog. We are making progress but it's not as fast as some think.

  9. This should have been more accurately titled: "Racism Against Blacks In Kansas City."

It is hardly complete. The Irish, Italians, Jews, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, et al, have all experienced great periods of targeted racism, often with the assistance of and/or thru laws created by local and state government.

We often forget that being the target of racism is not the exclusive property of Black America.

  10. Is this about the insane amount of black-on-white violence? That's racist right? The people who hold black people back the most is black people themselves.

  11. At what point, after 22 trillion dollars have been spent, after racist initiatives like Affirmative Action that deny any but people of color to acquire positions unearned, admissions into colleges where the only hope of matriculation will be by way of "African American Studies" degrees, set asides, quotas and laws does this misguided and pernicious movement come to a halt? Is there a sunset? Will our children's children's children still suffer under the burden of the lies that the Liberal Media have forced into law?

    When does it end?

Will it only end with "Equal Outcome?" The Culture of Complaint ahs long, long superceded the Culture of Achievement and the Rule of Law, along with the Social Contract is no longer anything that law abiding citizens can count on.

Racism, at this point, = logic. The Jim Crow laws that were in effect for so many years, would now, prevent the destruction of neighborhoods and entire cities. No matter how uncomfortable that makes Liberals, if you held a gun to their heads and told them to tell the truth, they would admit it. There is no small irony in that metaphor.

While we all herald the new release of an outdated book, in order to support a specious narrative that continues to destroy blacks and whites in inner city abattoirs, the dysfunction of the African American Sub Culture is a salient and pernicious constant that must be dealt with every day by law abiding citizens as they make their way through life.

Americans, it seems, both Liberal and Conservative, have an unlimited capacity to lie to themselves.

There is no Sell By Date on these laws, these Progressive interdicts, these onerous taxes and levies we must, as must our children, continue to pay for black population, that for the most part, hates America and hates whites. They prove it every day of every week of every month of every year and they prove it in blood. Get on your knees and bow your heads to your executioners.

The new Amerika hates you whitey.

  13. The TRUTH is that Blacks, among many, were the subject of civil and institutional racism. In the past.

Yet like any other minority group, rather than working to escape disadvantage thru hard work -- like the Asians, Hispanics, etc -- Blacks have a sense of entitlement not only to live in a world where work is unnecessary. Now Blacks not only have equal rights -- which is only right -- but NOW have the advantage of numerous programs -- governmental and private -- for which Blacks actually are given a pass to the front of the line. Affirmative action being the most notable. Governmental contract set-asides for Black business being next. Not to mention additional help with education, food, job training, etc., etc.

If "White" culture is guilty of anything, it's guilty of providing an environment where errant and criminal behavior by Black America is rewarded.

  16. Mr. Brooks' Bucket List. Next up apologize to all the desperate mothers of crime victims whom he had sex with while handing out burial money.

Then we can start with the women employees under his supervision whom he harrassed for sex. Remember that gross fight over Linda in the city garage?

I am in the air, much like a greasy fart, but still in the air. Say what you want now as I am only a puff of smoke. Speaking of smoke, man there is some good weed up there.

Choo Choo, I hear that train is a coming. The Negros won't be able to shoot me and old Harry Stone, now that we are only a puff of smoke. He he.

  25. I went to a talk about race a few years back at UMKC. Alvin Brooks was one of the speakers, and his spiel was pretty much that where black people live and all their problems are because of racism. That may have worked as late as the very early 1960s, but not any more.

As far as 10:37's complaints about Hyde Park go, I have to say you're just like Alvin Brooks--stuck in the 1960s or even earlier. Most of Kansas City's older developments restricted blacks (and Jews and Arabs and Indians and everyone who was not lily white) when they were built. And here we are well into the 21st Century, and most if not all of these neighborhoods have some of everyone they once excluded. Look around.

As for the Hyde Park board being 100% white (if that's even true), whose fault is that? Is a volunteer organization. I'm sure the board would welcome all the volunteers they can get, so if you want to get involved, get off your lazy ass and volunteer.

  26. I bet the book does not make mention about the amount of racism that stems from/to other black people. Mr. Brooks is heavily involved in that movement. I am less concerned about 1950's style of racism more than the 2000 style of racism. The book is fluff and filler, at best. Finger pointing from decades ago is not a solution to current problems faced among minority groups. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 7:02 Hyde Park is reserved for gays and lesbians. No place for other minorities.

  28. Funny, anybody who could make a difference if there really is the racism so many americans of color scream about happen to be black and the majority of the movers and shakers all the way up to the mayor are black and yet, still, blacks are victims of the so called phantom called "white America"
