ReplyDeleteJust earlier this year, Sly, Peters-Baker, and the gang grandly celebrated what great results the latest out-of-town program, NoVa, was doing reducing murders in the city. In 2014 there were fewer than in years past, but it's important to note that in past years KCMO regularly suffered fully one-third the number of homicides as New York City, which has a population 16 times as large.
ReplyDeleteThen, even as September 2015 was passing records for the number of murders in a single month, the professor whose theories NoVa is based on came to town to congratulate everyone involved for the wonderful jobs they were doing.
Now in 2015 as the city already passes last year's TOTAL number of murders in all of 2014 in just late September, Sly and the gang have decided that the problems are really guns and domestic violence, even though both have been there all along.
The problem is the behavior of a small minority of goons who have no respect for themselves or others and obviously no respect even for human life, and the endless excuses from east side self-appointed "leaders" and cowardly politicians, who just can't bring themselves to admit to that problem and deploy the law enforcement personnel and tactics to bring it under some degree of control.
As long as we're more interested in people like Michael Brown of Ferguson than we are in the grandparents who still live in the east side house where they raised their family, but can't let their grandchildren play outside because it's too dangerous, nothing good is going to happen.
It's very sad that public safety is such a low priority in KCMO, that endless excuses and changes of the story come out of city hall and police HQ, and that the population of the east side of the city continues to decline, even as politicians talk about taxpayer-subsidized grocery stores, bus routes, and digital divides.
Doing the same thing with the same people the same way year after year after decade.
Insanity.

Every news outlet who refused to cover black crime, and every individual who took part in hushing up these horrors or blocking the truth of these things (including acts like erasing or banning politically incorrect speech AKA the truth from website comment areas, or misconstruing the words of our vocal compatriots) will also pay heavily. They hide truths which would have saved many lives.
