There are a litany of worries about the Kansas City toy train streetcar and this report from the nation's capital reminds us that other towns have experienced a great many rail headaches over the years . . .
District Source D.C.: The streetcar has seen setback after setback, spanning several mayoral administrations.
Already a few concerns confront the toy train before it has even arrived . . .
- Street crowding
- cyclist accommodation on dangerous tracks
- Homeless loitering
- Slow and late running toy trains
- Cost overruns and rising expenses
Meanwhile, the delay for the toy train grows longer and PR generated from City Hall is the only real talk of an economic renissance the toy train was supposed to bring.
Developing . . .
Here's what you forgot: The next election.
ReplyDeleteCity council took the last election and drew special lines for it. When they do it this time they may not even need a vote.
As you probably know, "gerrymandering" is the practice of redrawing the borders of a voting district for a specific purpose, usually if not always to make sure it has more of your supporters than opponents in it.
ReplyDeleteI'M A S-S-S-SCARED! WILL WE ALL DIE?
ReplyDeleteYes, trolley boy. Eventually we will all die. Not before some of us, like you, will have made life more difficult for the next generation who will be tasked with undoing what you've done.
ReplyDeleteOH THE ONUS OF LIVING IN A CITY WITH LIGHT RAIL MASS TRANSIT. CAN WE POSSIBLY SURVIVE IT?
ReplyDeleteARMAGEDDON 6-3-9. We are talking Book of Revelations stuff here. Pestilence, illness, and plague.
ReplyDeleteOH THE WEIGHT OF THIS YOKE TO PULL IN MY SAD MIDDLE CLASS EXISTENCE.
But wooo doggies, that damn TOY TRAIN term is funny as hell.
Keep bringing it Tony. Maybe next next 2200 whines will result in something.
But lie down on the tracks if it makes you feel better.
Toot toot.
I am beginning to question whether the Mayor was born in this Country.
ReplyDeleteI like to consider myself a Denizen. Could Tony run with that and attribute it to his "insiders"?
Well if one nigger gets on board it's game over. Why are the niggers so foul smelly contagion species anyway? Then ask these questions, why do the niggers look so heinous? Why are the sounds coming from the niggers so terrible? Why do the niggers don't think or behave like humans? Why are the niggers utterly vile? I could go on as these reasons and more stated that there cannot be a positive meaning to nigger's exist. And asking that question is like saying there should be something positive about the niggers as to why couldn't the niggers smell better. There's nothing rational about the niggers, as it is already designed in nigger DNA. Niggers are so smelly as fresh feces because they are niggers so we can also call them smelly niggers. Niggers were meant to be flushed, that's all there to it.
ReplyDeleteAnother scam from the James gang.
ReplyDeletethe rail metro was proposed 40 years ago == connecting JoCo with downtown KC - via the existing rail lines paralleling I-35 --
ReplyDeletewhy not ?
democrat greedy union slobs insisted on scam hours and wages.
I know, damn it why the hell do skilled labor types think having a well maintained home, reliable trucks and decent tools to toil away their better years should command a FUCKING LIVEABLE WAGE????!!!!!
DeleteTell those workaday, dues paying, GDP boosters that their kiddies can go hungry and run shoeless while Daddy works for minimum wage part-time at one mega'MART or another, then rushes over to FLIP'M QUIK to work the drive through. Yeah, two jobs in his old man's day meant 40 plus 20 hours/week. Try raising kids on two jobs at 15 hours apiece today.
....like a snowball headed for hell.
^^^^^^^
ReplyDeleteThat is real knowledge and a good fact for you to follow-up TKC. Nice to see that in the comments for a change.
Setback after setback and then even more setbacks. Why should all these setbacks surprise anyone, just look at how city hall is ran and the setbacks make perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteI heard it li a bajillion dollars over budget and they are selling aborted body parts to pay for it!
ReplyDeleteSomebody better call the
F
B
I
!!!!!!!
Doesn't really matter how late it is because KC is already about 25 years behind every other comparable city when it comes to transit. Mostly because of backwards ass thinkers like the knee jerkers of this blog.
ReplyDeleteAll of those cities are adding people along their transit corridors, and business is following, increasing the tax base and providing for better cities and metros.
Thank god we don't have problems like that!
We just need to build more highways and feeder roads and culdesacs in the middle f farmland! That's the future! Lots of infrastructure for little population and a sparse tax base! Smart, KC, SMART! What could go wrong?
Wetback after wetback and then even more wetbacks. Why should all these wetbacks surprise anyone, just look at how city hall is ran and the wetbacks make perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteFixed that for you Stupordave. You may now resume tongueing Tony's asshole.
Don't cry 9:33 plenty of people do it. Without help.
ReplyDeleteChoo Choo, All aboard. That Toy Train is a coming. Hopefully at supersonic speed as those Critical Mass of Shit Assholes are in the middle of the track.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as the Toy Train spurs a economic revival for Killa City, the next look into the future for Killa City will be the unveiling of the Covered Wagon.
Okay 11:13 some are crying, but not LYING. Plenty of people do it? Without help? Yeah. Right.
ReplyDeleteSingles maybe make it on a few hundred a week and no help (don't know any). But a parent at not much over minimum wage clocks 30 hours, is not getting ahead. Even $10./hr. for 40 hours to support a family is impossible without some help. Unless you got free granny nanny before the kids are school age, you homeschool (they live in pjs and no sports/music/extras) or have Mommy working a cash job (shhhhhh) SOME "help" is happening for the overwhelming majority in that bracket.
Millions more students are FREE lunch, REDUCED lunch, Harvesters and other pantry assisted each year. Long lines are getting longer every summer for FREE sports physicals and backpacks/school supplies.
Dental/Health fairs are huge across the city.
Credit card and payday loan reliance is high.
Point is, good paying jobs (union or not) makes the American Dream achievable.
Honestly, how much mortgage, car/truck payment and emergency funds added to food, utilities, gas at the pump, phones, and keeping a family of 3 or 4 going each month can be paid out of a few hundred $ a week???
.....let's all ring the liberty bell.
Poor twowwy boy. Did widdwe twowwy boy's Saturday night turn out to be such a bummer he had to spend it on TKC? Perhaps when the toy choo choo is up and wunning he'll have a pwace to go on a Saturday night.
ReplyDeletePS: Busses are twansit, twowwy boy.
I know it will make Trolley Boy's wee wee hurt, but anyone who thinks the toy train is going to benefit KCMO in anyway is absolutely delusional. It's nothing more than an expensive toy so KC can pretend to be a large, major city. Newsflash, KC was, is and will always be a small Midwestern city. People like Trolley Boy, who don't have the balls, skills or money to make it in a true metropolis like NY or Chicago, need the toy train to make themselves feel "urban." Maybe he can put on his hipster duds, grab his double espresso and take the toy train down to the livestock show at the American Royal. Someday maybe it will even run to Orscheln Farm Supply or Bass Pro!
ReplyDeleteNice try rube. Even hillbilly assed Oklahoma City is building a streetcar.
ReplyDeleteThe toy train has already fullfilled more of it's promises than "SMART"KC. Remember the super special bus plan to solve all our problems they promises to reveal over a year ago?
Meanwhile the toy train has spurred more development than the entire project coat to build and toy train "kiddie renter hipster kales" have lined us up for a Propect MAX, while the "supporters of modern affordable regional transit" haven't done shit except troll Facebook.
Anybody seen Sherry and Dan and Pat over on the east side recently? No? Shocking...
For someone who is always alleging TKC has no influence, trolley boy sure spends a lot of time here.
ReplyDeleteJust because Oklahoma City is building a 5-mile loop streetcar is no reason for anyone else to follow suit. If ten thousand people do a foolish thing, it's still a foolish thing. The same for cities. As for our Prospect MAX, please don't pretend you ever supported that once Phase 2 of the streetcar was voted down. You've said on TKC many times that the east side got what they deserved. The kiddie renter hipster kales had nothing to do with the Prospect MAX. The kiddie renter hipster kales are not and have never been interested in the east side.
Or are you going to be as hypocritical about the new MAX as you are about TKC?
Same people who made the streetcar happen made the Main Max happen, the Troost Max happen, the Propect Max happen, compressed natural gas buses happen, the bus system regionalization happen, and the reorganization of the ATA lines to more efficient and effective coordination happen.
ReplyDeleteSMARTKC, CFRG, Show Me Institute, Mike Bushnell, Sam Abadir, Brian Stalder and other transit haters have done zilch. Zero. Nothing.
Kiddie corp renter hipster kale rural rubes from Nebrasky and Kansas or whatever your ad hominem du jour are responsible for EVERY SINGLE advancent in KCs lowly, embarrassing and crippling transit for the last quarter century.
Truth, truth. Debunk, debunk.
Are you denying you posted numerous comments saying the east side deserved the transit they have by not voting for the streetcar and that the east side voted against the Prospect MAX pretending they had the option of voting just for the MAX?
ReplyDeleteSuggest you go take a look at Oklahoma City's bus system and then come back and tell us how "lowly, embarrassing and crippling" our transit is. You do realize buses are transit, don't you?
