Anti-black racism still infects American society.
African Americans are more likely than whites to be killed by police, to be pulled over, arrested, imprisoned, and executed. They are more likely to be turned down for a job, to be underpaid, or offered a bad home loan than equally qualified whites.
Racism’s effects are tragic. The killing of unarmed black men in Ferguson, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland, triggered riots. A white terrorist massacred black worshipers in Charleston, South Carolina. Eight black churches were burned in the South in ten days.
Kansas Citians, like so many others across the nation, wonder, "Could it happen here?" The answer lies in this study of Kansas City’s darkest moments—slavery, the border war, the Civil War, bombings of black homes, lynchings, the segregation of neighborhoods and schools, the civil rights struggle, the Black Panther movement, the 1968 race riot, assassinations in the 1970s, the infamous Missouri v. Jenkins U.S. Supreme Court case, and the racial inequities that still plague Kansas City today. Notice how truly racist past events such as slavery and forced segregation are, without supporting argument, tied to "racial inequities that still plague Kansas City today." So the sky high black crime rate, lack of educational achievement, unmarried birth rate and general welfare dependency - none of these are blacks' fault, they're all the continuing fault of white people. So keep giving us free stuff, except more of it. All these social pathologies correlate much better with the advent of Great Society programs than with overtly racist public policies, but that doesn't bring in the bucks so it's off the table.

ReplyDeleteI taught college classes in Kansas City for several years, and it was so frustrating when I had a student (always at least one every semester) who whined and complained and kept saying he (always a male) just couldn't do this classwork, so would I help him? Again and again and again, I fell for it and helped him, to no avail, until I finally had to tell him that the only way he could learn was to do the work himself. Oddly, when I finally forced him to write his own papers, to do his own homework, to reason through to his own answers, he invariably did quite well. But it was a nightmare getting him to that point. Also it was never a white, Hispanic, or Asian student--always a Black student, and always male. I often wondered just what it was about the Black community that they kept turning out so many wonderful, but initially petulant male students who began our term together by trying to whine his way through his tests and homework. It was certainly not all Black males--but always at least one almost every term.

I know the media does its best to not report it but you can find some good links from other posters on this blog. Nobody is more racist than black people. Hell, you hate yourselves too. Just look at all the black-on-black violence. Answer me this: No race gets along with you, including, in particular, yourselves. Given that, how are we expected to get along with you? Look at Asians who migrate to America. They have literally never seen a black person except on TV. What happens when they get here? They hate you. You know why? You earned the hate. They didn't get indoctrinated by their parents or something. It came to them naturally by all of the negative experiences they had with black people. I was the same way. My dad was prejudice and growing up I told him he was wrong. Then I went to college where I was exposed to the real black culture, not the few good black families living in Overland Park. I can't tell you how many examples of unreal black behavior I saw on a regular basis. Just like Asians my opinions of you were EARNED. For years I told my dad he was wrong but just like with a lot of other things in life when you get older you realize your parents know what they are talking about. Then again, I bet "parents" is a foreign concept to you.

Whites are more than FORTY TIMES more likely to be assaulted or killed by a Black that vice versa.
53% of CLEARED murders in the US are committed by only FOUR PERCENT (4%) of the US population -- Black Males 16-35. It may be significantly higher give uncleared/unsolved homicides.
The NUMBER ONE cause of death for Black males 16-35 is MURDER. Whites males in the same age group: Automobile accident.

Al Brooks and the other vast cast of east side grifters have made very good livings for decades by climbing aboard the 1960s "I marched with Martin" train and riding it to this very day.

In fact,if you ever even try to talk about what policies or programs could be changed and how they'd suggest improvements in their community could be made, these folks don't even know what you're talking about.
So on they ride, even as the east side population decreases, the number of abandoned and vacant houses and commercial buildings continues to increase, crime, violence, and murders increase, and the condition of regular residents continues to decline.
Making speeches, blaming others, shaking down corporations and government, and cashing those checks.
Why change a really good thing for this handful of people, even as the folks they claim to represent continue to suffer?

ReplyDeleteYou're speaking the truth and I personally know a credible person who had an experience first hand with Al Brooks. He told them that he was offended by people (white folks) from outside the urban core offering suggestions to curb violence and reduce the murder rate of black males.
My friend was shocked by Brooks attitude and walked away realizing this is what is wrong in the urban core. The self elected leadership is threatened by knowledge and people who care about saving lives.
And to think he was a policeman for years, a mayoral candidate, and is held in high regard in the community. Speaks volumes.
