Our blog community was FIRST to warn against Mayor Sly's plan to ram through his agenda this week in a joint meeting of outgoing and upcoming city council members on Tuesday.

INSIDERS ASK: VOTERS SHOULD ASK THEMSELVES . . . WHY IS THE MAYOR TRYING TO PUSH THIS STUFF THROUGH BEFORE THE NEW COUNCIL TAKES OFFICE AND CAN MORE ACCURATELY REFLECT THE INTERESTS OF VOTERS???

Tuesday's meeting should be exceptionally important as supporters and opponents of the airport prepare to do battle on a new airport that residents throughout the Kansas City metro have almost universally opposed.

After the airport meeting . . . Insiders wonder which one of the upcoming council newbies will be brave enough to offer a quote to the media given that Mayor Sly is yet to make committee appointments and could hold the positions over their head in order to earn silence and the appearance of unanimity. Already, Insiders tell us that Mayor Sly is "not giving away anything" and committee assignments will be granted to the council members he thinks will be more cooperative with his upcoming plans.

And then . . .

The new airport debate starts at the Library this week but finishes in front of the city council where Mayor Sly will attempt to ram through the convention hotel deal before the new council takes hold.

We've got more on this but look for petitioners and maybe a few outgoing council members to offer a few surprises.

The point here . . .

MAYOR SLY ISN'T TAKING ANY CHANCES AS HE WORKS TO ADVANCE HIS AGENDA QUICKLY BEFORE HIS 2ND TERM STARTS AND IN FRONT OF ANY POTENTIAL OPPOSITION!!!

It's a smart move but one the foreshadows future fighting.
